Looks like it will take about 105 million to repair the airport and the insurance company isn't paying.

there might be a difference of opinion on how much the rebuilding will cost.

Well, perhaps, but offering 1/4 of the amount they are saying it will cost to rebuild, to me is not even a legitimate offer.

We were told by someone inside the airport yesterday (upper management) that work is being done and on schedule. He said they would be fully operational by October. Said there was no problem with the insurance money, and in fact the money for the repairs was flowing in. But as everyone knows, you hear all kinds of stuff when your here. Just thought I would pass that along.

I have always felt you are told what they feel you want to hear. Roof work was being done all these past weeks which has to be done before anything major can take place inside. They were also striping the inside area to rid of the mold.

Fully operational THIS October?? Or October 2019? Regardless, what he said to you cannot be true. Otherwise the airport would not be suing Nagico.

October 2018, no way and likely not fully operational by October 2019. Especially if the insurance thing drags out.

Agreed, I doubt it will be fully operational by October 2019 either.

Not surprising at all. you pay pay pay, and then when you need repars???? You get a frraction of what your supposed to... This happaned with luis. Kinda way we decided to put money aside for emergency. If the house came down and totaled we would have been screwed, but its still standing, and we were able to pay for repairs from money save. I think we saved alot of money, But of course this is a private home not an airport.... Not surprised... Devastation like this will not give people whats due. and the wait is god awlful

Would not like to get into the details of the Airport situation but hoping for the best with the court judgement . But the fearful part would be appeals which will make us suffer big time. I'm hoping at least that the roof can be done properly and thereafter internally we can make do with what ever. No need to rush for lavishness. We just need shelter , luggage transfer on belts and some computers.

You are correct Lesley. Sad state of affairs if this continues to drag out.

Lesley,

Between the article about the impending hurricane season and this, it seems the only island news today has been less than wonderful. I surely hope things get back on track for the island and the people we love.

Respectfully,

pat

I too hope so, but after this hurricane, and repairs that will take years, not sure we can expect such great news. People need to know the truth, and the truth is!!! Lots can not go back because of damage, and you happen to be one of them... So we have to admitt to ourselves this will take a long time. Not sure what good news your looking for, but you too could not get back... some have come back because they are able to find a place to stay, and who care little about comforts, thats not all. It is what it is... I too have not been back, Some of us want the comforts we knew, they are gone..

"Some of us want the comforts we knew, they are gone.." Incorrect. We are leaving soon for a stay on the island and where we stay has been repaired and looks just as lovely as before the hurricane. Your constant gloom and doom comments are often incorrect and are definitely not what the island needs.

Not totally correct. We just got back and found the island very accomodating. Our villa rental was in great shape and already put our deposit down for next May knowing our Flamingo time share will still be under reconstuction.

I just returned as well and had everything I needed. It was MORE comfort than usual, as last time at our timeshare the a/c went out and it was a MISERABLE night!

Had no power outages, and only one water outage due to someone not turning it back on after doing some work. It was fixed within two hours. No complaints whatsoever from us. And I am, as they say, a creature of comfort! wink

I will let you know personally Lesley, wife just said that we are headed over to the Dingy Dock. Here shortly. Showers and all sir. Absolutely Lesley, I understand with great importance, this not a joke. We will see where this leads. No rumors, but someone is talking to the media, for what advantage not sure, the information is flowing from somewhere. I do find it very interesting even what I have read and people speaking to us that the stories are so conflicting, so strange.

When you fall off your bicycle you get back on as soon as possible. I was not ready to return back to SXM for 9 months but it is time for me to return.
The repairs are finished and I need to decorate. Most anxiety is from not being there. The airport is the least of my worries as long as I can arrive and depart.
So fork Irma and shake off the dust and get back on your bicycle.

Great way of looking at it, Wendy!

We returned very early after Luis and emotionally, I didn’t feel I could do it twice but I’m realizing more and more we should have done so rather than waiting and dealing with all the negativity.

‘Gonna get my bike out and make sure it’s road-ready and hopefully the time will pass quickly......

pat
