I'm confused. Is the yacht club right at the bridge or behind Jimbo's?

Coming from Belair it’s immediately before the bridge on the right. There’s very limited parking and best to get there well before the bridge openings so you can see the yachts lining up, assuming they’re back. Not to be missed, for sure. They serve great Eggs Benedict and their afternoon apps are yummy.

There's no yacht's here now. Bridge openings are quick. Il the parking lot is filled when you go by, just keep going over the bridge to park. Lots of closed businesses.

When do the big ones start returning? Soon, right? Well, soon after the end of the H season........

Confusion might be between the restaurant which is next to the bridge and the residence area that is gated and kind of hard to see behind Jimbos.

Yes exactly. That makes sense, there are two locations. Thank you.

By the bridge is Sint Maarten Yacht Club. The residences by Jimbo's are Simpson Bay Yacht club.

I'm another who was underwhelmed by the grouper fingers. Mine weren't cold and soggy, but there was SO MUCH breading that I wondered where the fish was. Not for me.

Thank you, Scuba and Linda, as that was pretty much my experience, too. They were okay but nothing that I’d rave over and certainly not what I expected given all the rave reviews I’ve read over time. But we all know I’m not much of a foodie so I assumed I was just missing something. And we can all have different expectations.

Oh great, that was high on my list of things to try next trip after all the great reviews! But how bad could it be with a frozen beverage watching the yacths come through the bridge. It's got to be better than a good day at work! smile

Have the bloody Mary's instead. Better option as they are very good at SMYC.

We just returned from a drive through Maho to Cupecoy and back. Stopped at SMYC for lunch. I had the grouper fingers and my wife had the coconut shrimp. Both were good, hot, crispy and delicious but we both agreed that the shrimp was awesome. Love the place and can't wait to go back for breakfast or dinner or both.

If you go for breakfast the eggs Benedict are very good. I had the drunken pancakes based on recomdations and regret it. Like eating a giant coconut macaroon with syrup on it. Not my idea of a pancake.

I still plan on giving it a go Carol, and probably will have to try breakfast too, just to make sure its as good as advertised. Scuba, my wife loves Bloodys, so shes going to critique those!

I like the grouper fingers but I consider them more like traditional "fish and chips". They do have a bit more breading than I prefer but they are still quite tasty. It is also a very large portion so can be an appetizer for two or a meal for one. Certainly worth the money if you like fried fish.

Sorry......don't want to be confusing. Just the "fish" part of "fish and chips". There are no fries served with them.

So we back this morning and we both had Bloody's and Eggs Benedict. Great food. Fab Bloody Mary. A nice setting for breakfast or anything for that matter.

Carol the picture is for you.

My fav breakfast. I order the loaded Bloody Mary which includes 2 or 3 jumbo cocktail shrimp. Not sure how it is described on menu but will be finding out soon enough.

"limited" almost nonexistent!! Can 5 cars park there at the same time?

Is the little shopping plaza still there next to Royal Palm across the street from the Yacht Club? One could park there. When we stayed at RP we would just walk across the street. We really enjoyed the Yacht Club. The waiters and waitresses were always so friendly and we never had a complaint about the food. Can't wait to return.

Yes. Right before the drawbridge. There were I think 2 gift shops (one was a Shipwreck Shop) and maybe a small business center. Maybe a mini grocery store. Unsure of the other shops.

Scuba. Unsure about your description. You're better at those details than obviously I am. I just know if your looking at RP from the street the plaza is to the left of RP. And both are across the street from the Yacht Club. As RP is still not up and running, parking there might be an option as well.

On the lagoon side is the Coast Guard station, a fish market with resto's, the the Public Govt Service center, old Ricks place, perfume shop.....

On the bay side is the police station, McDonalds and a string of shops. Don't believe a grocery store is there.

I don't think any of those shops by Royal Palm are open, and since RP itself is a construction zone and walled off from the beach, I doubt they would let you park in that parking lot either. Right NOW, since it's way low season, I doubt one would have an issue parking at the Yacht Club.

That plaza is part of the Royal Palm and every thing is closed there. No parking is available as it is all fenced in for construction and it willl be that way untill it opens in 2020.

Yes, if you're talking about the shops right AT Royal Palm, they are all closed. You can't even get into the parking lot. It's a massive construction zone.

It can get quite busy at happy hour/dinner time, even now. If it's full we either park down the road at closed businesses like Lee's, Skipjacks, or the other side of the bridge where Ric's was. Or get there just before 4.

Surprised it's busy even now, but I forget that a lot of those places in that area are closed now. Any word on when Skipjacks will reopen??

There are a few places that have a huge local following and retain a decent crowd. During the day, it's very quiet.

Thank you, Carol. We luckily managed to get a week in last April 2017 but alas our Oct/Nov 2017 like everyone else's never happened. I have a different mobile carrier than previously so unsure how strong my signal will be on the island. I'll do my best to post but this trip is all about de-stressing. I doubt I'll post daily trip reports, they are consuming especially when uploading photos.

First, enjoy your trip! If you're able to post reports on island, that's great! If not, would love to hear about it afterward..

We've talked to people in the know at the yacht club and they have heard about a November opening for Skipjacks also but having seen the very slow progress that they feel that is VERY optimistic.

They raised the Passat from the bottom of the lagoon a couple of days ago. I guess they're going to clean it up and sink for a reef somewhere.
