Has anyone ever been to Fat Tony's Smokehouse and how was it? It is supposed to be located someplace in Cupecoy?

We tried it twice and thought it was terrible both times. Smoked meat was dry and flavourless.

We haven’t been to the island since Irma hit but before then we went to FT’s a few times and really liked it for what it is. Now mind you, we enjoy good meals but we also liked this venue - a hole in the wall sidewalk spot with picnic tables and no wait staff, that made one of the best pizzas we’ve ever had on island. Again, not gourmet but really, really good.
The front desk and security staff at our TS rated it as being very good, thus we tried it. And if it doesn’t meet your expectations, there are several other dining ops in the immediate area assuming they’re all open at this point. Bar Code and the Spaghetti House immediately come to mind and I know there are others including a great bakery for desserts or morning pastries. FT’s is known for its smoked items and I’ve heard others say their steak dinner plate is pretty good but we never got beyond the pizza. It’s totally casual and well patroned by the med school people, or at least it was. Who knows these days?!
Respectfully,
pat

Like Pat, I've eaten there, but NOT for the smoked items. I guess that's kind of a Canadian thing, smoked meats?? Anyway, I ate there a couple of times, both times had pizza and it was good. A cheap, pick up kind of place. Extremely casual, picnic table kind of place. The last time the electric went out when we were there, and I don't know, somehow that just made it charming, sort of like really old time SXM. As Pat says, go by and see what you think. If the look of it and the menu doesn't turn you on, there are a ton of other casual places in that immediate area. Bar Code gets rave reviews, but we've never eaten there.

Since it's a smokehouse one would have thought.... Certainly not a Canadian thing, it's all over the states. We had a smoker in CT for years and were hoping for something good.
We absolutely love Bar Code and Spaghetti House. If you're looking for pizza, try In and Out pizza. Pizza's not our thing really, but it gets rave reviews from everyone. Run by the Bar Code family.

Elaine,
In and Out Pizza - is it in the Cupecoy area, too? Is it the take-out place that at one time had a coffee house or something along those lines next door to it? We don’t typically do pizza on the island but we got it from the place I’m thinking of once and it was good but we really liked FT’s, too.

We found Fat Tony's pre Irma by a few months. We enjoyed it.... I remember having a decent steak dinner there for a very reasonable price, and also enjoyed the ribs and chicken there. It is FAR from a gourmet meal....but for a more reasonably priced casual meal it hit the spot....TWICE. Also their pizza was quite tasty too. For our three weeks....a few reasonably priced and good meals are the way to go.

Yes Pat. It's on the corner diagonal to BeBe's, opposite end of the building that houses Bar Code. The road next to it leads down to the Jordan Village Carrefour.
Had the Serbian white bean soup with smoked sausage and bacon at Bar Code the other night. It's a real favorite!

We had burgers at Bar Code one night with Barbara and Dee and as I think back on the evening, I seem to recall, you and Bill were there with us as well. We’ve gone to BC for lunch several times and enjoyed it too so I would agree it’s a great Cupecoy area choice, but we also have enjoyed Fat Tony’s, too, for a quick casual meal. The Cupecoy Carrefour will be new to us as we’ve only frequented the one at Porto Cupecoy and we have yet to try the Spaghetti House but I’ve only heard good things about it. So many great options in that area these days...we liked having the bakery - is it Jules - so close to us and isn’t there a Chinese take-out place, too? Now, if only we had our timeshare back...........

We kind of hi-jacked the Fat Tony question a bit and I plead guilty as charged with apologies, but I’m thinking, in the end, there are so many enjoyable places at Cupecoy these days, at least you now know if FT’s doesn’t do it for you, there are lots of other options, too.

We have enjoyed the food at Bar Code but the last time we went the service from a waitress was on a short list of the worst I have ever experienced. Once we got to the point where the only thing left was for us to pay the bill she just totally ignored us. I had to leave the table and walk to the cash register area to plead with her to give us the bill. After another wait Dot left and went to the car. the waitress seemed to get the message and brought me the bill and I gave her a credit card immediately. After a good 5 - 10 minute wait I again left the table and walked over to the cash register where I picked my card up off the bar and pleaded with her to process it. Needless to say there was no tip left.

The Cupecoy Carrefour will be new to us as we’ve only frequented the one at Porto Cupecoy Now I'm confused. We have always shopped at The Porto Cupecoy store also and am wondering if the Cupecoy Carrefour is the name of that store in Puerto Cupecoy or a different one closer to Bar Code.

From our trip in July 2017
That night after 2 disappointing meals we decided to play it safe and have BBQ at Fat Tony's in Cupecoy. It isn't fancy but the beer and food are good and the owner Rick is a nice guy. We met a man who had went to college in Lexington with a man from our hometown that we knew. I had pulled pork and Mary had a small portion of ribs and pulled pork. Alice's Potatoes (potato salad) were very good!
For dinner, we went back to Fat Tony's as they were having steak night. I had Rick cook me up one medium rare and it was better than Mezza Luna's. Mary had smoked chicken and it was good. Over-all Tony's was a 4 out of 5.

What cut of steak does he offer? not sure...but when i had it, it was very good. For under 15 bucks or so, it really didn't matter.

It matters to me. A beef steak under 15 bucks anywhere is not a quality cut. Good hamburgers go for more than that.

Doesn't Dinghy Dock do $5 steaks on Friday's?

And they are really good too. For a little more you can have prime rib. Also good.

I never had a smoked steak before as I prefer flame grilled but with the cheap price I may experiment there.

No, it's in Jordan Village by the Medical School. There is one in Porto Cupecoy, this is a second store.
