Especially in light of Roxxy Beach, I hope the government does enforce the noise ordinance. Whenever Royal Palm does reopen, the noise may be unbearable.

It's unbearable right here in Cupecoy with music from Sapphire. And Escape will open with a DJ soon.

Music during the day or at night from Sapphire? Escape, is that at the corner there, where you used to go up to the Summit?

Morning and some nights. Escape is right behind us on the corner of Jordan Rd. which went to the summit. Opposite end of building where Fig used to be.

I hope this is more than lip service, here at the SBR villas we have had to keep the doors closed tight until 3:00am, especially on week ends.

Elaine--ok. That is kind of odd, loud noise from a timeshare property. And I thought that was where Escape was most recently. Best wishes. I loathe loud music myself.

WLE--there is no lip service even, currently. That's the problem. I hope the timeshare association is able to get some action, but I'm not holding my breath..

I hope it does not reach the level that La bamba used to crank out.You could feel the bass through the walls at the Villas at simpson bay!!!!! I recall it being on wednesday and sunday nights till 1 am or so.Occasionally later with special events. No respect for anyone I guess is common.

What timeshare association? I honestly wasn’t aware there was one, and if yes, it seems to me there are far bigger issues than noise abatement they should be looking into and dealing with. Purely my personal opinion........

Pat--It's SMTA Link,

which to my understanding is an association of timeshare RESORTS. Been around a long time.

And they still list the Summit as a member resort. Time to update.

Oh, right! I thought we were talking about a timeshare association that advocated on behalf of the various timeshare unit owners and not the timeshare property owners. Too much room for conflicts of interest, IMHO. I’m still looking for the timeshare guideline protections the island has been promising since forever still to no avail. You can see from your own observations how useless they are.

The problem is that t/s 'owners' all have different agendas, to be able to have one association between them. And t/s protection legislation in SXM, I wouldn't hold my breath on that, my dear! smile

Carol,

The basic concern of ALL t/s owners is fair treatment within the terms of our individual purchase agreements and IF the government cared about protecting a large segment of its visiting population they could and SHOULD pass some legislation. It’s been promised by every administration since the initial problems at the original Pelican Resort fiasco. Early to mid nineties? Not sure anymore but this form of legislation has been promised forever. But it seems different governments including the present one have very close relationships with timeshare resort owners - not to be confused with weeks, unit or time owners, and their managers and this government included, they wouldn’t dream of rocking their boats.

Respectfully,

pat

That may well be true, but my feeling is that the SXM government just is unable to do most things that government should be able to do..

Does anyone actually know what the present noise ordinances are for Dutch St. Maarten? I know I don't. No music in an open setting above a certain decibel level after midnight? Or, maybe 2:00 a.m.? If these actually exist, then the Justice Minister could have them printed and redistributed to such venues with a warning that a fine will be imposed if a violation occurs. How likely is that to happen? Not very. But, there is one thing guests can do. Bring a supply of noise reduction ear plugs and use them when on the island. That's what we started doing a few years back and they do help. You'll never experience total silence, but it will reduce things to the point where you can get to sleep.

Really? Why is this a Timeshare issue? We used to have awful music from Lagoonies back in the 90's and 2000's. It was clearly loud across the lagoon and we were property owners. And all you guys used to go on Neil's cruise in the lagoon and party and scream to all hours. I complained to him and he didn't care.
We also had a place called Gorilla's on Welfare Rd where the Carousel is and it was BLASTING all night. Our Admin complained to Government.
So give me a break!

As Elaine pointed out, it's definitely an issue for locals also, to be sure. But I certainly don't blame the SMTA for trying to get government to address it, as the timeshare 'owner' demographic is not really much into loud, late night music.

As I had stated a while ago, I was concerned after reading all about the noise in Royal Palm area, lolos that are set up, car stereos at Kim sha beach beside the royal palm, etc. We stayed in that area, directly above the Green house restaurant in an apartment villa. We could look out and see the back end of Marty's go Dutch, Toppers, and look farther over to see where Roxy's is being constructed beside the Royal Palm. I have to say, honestly, we had zero noise problems at night. Yes, we heard the music from Buccaneer Beach Bar, directly beside us,,,but it was earlier in evening. We were worried that it was going to be a problem, but it was not at all. Now, I am not sure what Roxy's is supposed to be like?? But it is right beside Royal Palm, and could be an issue if their venue is going to include loud banging music at all hours, especially for those staying at Royal Palm. I hope that is not the case, as we love to stay at the RP and can hardly wait till it is open again. Our stay was last week in January of 2019
