Does anyone have any updates or pictures of any new construction going on next to where Pedro’s use to be. Where the eight were before Irma. Also can you drive from Perch lite down to the Village just behind where all the old beach side restaurants where? We were there end of August and don’t think you could at that time.
You can't really drive all the way from the Perch to Orient Village. You have to walk a short distance to pick up the old road where the taxi's use to let people off by Pedro's. You can definitely drive from the new Kontiki to Orient Village, but in all honesty I would seek out a parking spot and walk the rest of the way.
As for construction around Pedro's, there's not much going on near Pedro's but there was some activity going on behind what use to be String Beach, Sun Beach, and so forth. Some others on here may have better updates. We've been back for about five weeks, and I know things continue to progress there. As for Pedro's it's nothing more than a small abandoned shack that stands where this once vibrant business was. What was interesting is the steps that led you down to the beach are still there and are still in tact. Walked up-and-down those steps many times in the past, so I did it for nostalgia's sake on our last visit.
Ok. Thanks we will be staying in the Villages end of May and was hoping you could drive back and forth to Perch Lite without having to go back out on the main road.
Thanks. So Bill and Elaine have they been working on the places next to where Pedro's used to be. Just hopping some of those beach bars will be back by the end of May
Elaine - just checking - we will arrive May 5, staying at Bruno's, we can drive done to the Village, hang a right near Alamada & drive all the way to the Perch Lite without having to go out to the main road? Thanks.
Gotta Caribbean soul I can barely control and some Texas hidden here in my heart...(J.B.)
For what it’s worth, as to opening schedules, on our trip in March we spoke to a few of the small Orient restaurant owners and they appeared to be targeting July for opening.
These pictures are of the new construction just north of where Pedro's used to be; I believe the old bathroom is the last orange building. Workers are actually working today.... Easter Sunday! Well actually there are eight pictures but apparently I have exceeded the limits to upload all, I got five attached.
We were on the beach late March, early April. Word is .... of the eight resto's that went north from Pedro's to Kontiki: First spot - concrete block foundation was visible when we were ther is Pirates [Maurice] Going north in the 3rd or 4th spot will be Chez Leandra. Zelman and Roschelle are currently running a hut with drinks, chairs for rent and lunch on a phone in basis by 11:30.
Looks like the there is walkway separating the 1st 4 from the 2nd flour. North of that walkway reportedly will be Sun Beach, Aloha and Le String and ? - maybe using containers vs concrete foundation - but that part is heresay.
Earliest completion is 4 months plus? maybe, but fall sometime looks feasible
We were told the previous tenants have 1st dibs but that eventually runs out and apparently several lined up if a spot opens up
Looks like the gov't is putting in the ultilities, the tenant then pays for the approved gov't arcvhitect drawings and then builds themselves. Rents to come later .....
I had heard that Le String, Orange Fever, Aloha, Chez Leandra and Pedro’s were slated to be back. Pedro’s in the same area as the others, not in its previous location.
No idea about possible others and no guarantees that this information is correct, but the info I got was pretty specific.
The workers put the Portland cement / sand base and layed the pavers on the sidewalk today. The ocean is to the right of the building; club O road to the left of the sidewalk. So there is a paver sidewalk behind the concrete block building that is going up now.

The concrete building going up is Pirate. Most of the operators coming back will be in different locations. Aloha will be at the south end. Le String will be in the middle instead next to Kon Tiki. Leandra will be in the same area that they have set up there temporary bar. We have been sitting there the last week. $20 2 chairs, umbrella and drink.
Jeepers--Jeff Berger says that the owner of Calmos is opening a place on Orient, I think in the Village, but that will not be called Calmos. Calmos in Grand Case is allegedly supposed to reopen before the end of this year. As I have stated here before, for me what MADE Calmos was the location. The food was not much of a draw...
Thanks for the picture of the sidewalk. I just don't get the French government, and their ridiculously slow action to all these poor people out of work for now a year and a half....and still a good six months away from opening. Of course, utilities, plumbing, etc have to be completed first...but why in the world would a sidewalk be constructed now....BEFORE any of the structures are up and getting ready to open?? To spend that money laying a sidewalk, BEFORE all the other construction vehicles are gone is just a waste of money. Cranes, bulldozes, cement trucks, or any other equipment driving over this sidewalk is just totally batsh/t crazy. Our first visit to Orient this year was March 18. The orange construction fence was already in place,....a few of the trenches were dug...and in the three weeks we were there, we saw maybe one or two people hand digging IF anyone worked that day on the site. When we left now two weeks ago, the pictures don't seem to much different, except for the sidewalk. At that time, the owners of the restaurants still were not sure if they would be accepted back....and none of them had a clue of where they may be IF accepted back. To say that they weren't a bit pissed off would be mild. Hopefully the rumor of the returning restaurants is correct...a pretty good lineup again. I just hope and pray that this time, they will be able to operate effectively, and for YEARS to come. These poor people spent a ton of money last time, after being out of work for so long...to be spending another ton of money when they first moved in, to be displaced again by Irma. I personally cannot wait to get back to Orient next year...and hoping the ''vibe'' will be back. This year, although the beach was beautiful...just was NOT the same....and it surely cost an arm and a leg vs when everything else is open.
