Week 3Nov.14-We started the day with my personal chef cooking a full breakfast of bacon, eggs , toast and coffee. Dining in the sunshine overlooking the pool is always a treat in November since we know we wouldn't be doing that at home. We enjoyed the morning here and after lunch we decided to go out to Grand Marche for a few essentials. We spent the remainder of the afternoon on the balcony basking in the sunshine and having a few cocktails.
We decided to have dinner tonight at Peg Leg Restaurant and enjoy the music of "Cover to Cover"who play there every Wednesday night. The restaurant was full tonight as "Cover to Cover" usually draws a good crowd. We were lucky to get the last table and settled in to enjoy the music. David ordered steak and said it was very good and I had the grilled grouper which was delicious. We had drinks with dinner but we were both too full for dessert. The service was very slow tonight and there was only Sean and another waitress to serve all the tables. We waited for an hour to get our food, but Sean complimented two drinks which was very nice. We really did enjoy our meal so it was probably worth the wait!
We left the restaurant at 10:00 P.M. and went over to the Princess Casino to try our luck. We both walked away winners tonight and arrived home with full tummies and full pockets and kissed good-bye to another wonderful day.
Nov.15- Had a nice breakfast in the condo and then spent most of the day lounging around the pool and enjoying some tropical drinks on the balcony. We enjoyed a nice steak dinner at home tonight. After dinner we went out jewellery shopping @ Splash Jewellery for some Christmas gifts for the girls in the family and later stopped into the Hollywood Casino for a while. We broke even tonight and had a few hours of entertainment.
Nov.16- Another beautiful day in paradise! We enjoyed breakfast and lunch in the condo today and spent a relaxing afternoon reading and sunbathing poolside.
This was the day of our TGIF party at the Dream Bar, so we got ready and then picked Annie up on our way. The party was fun and we had about 50 people in attendance. Everyone enjoyed the drinks and the sunset and Ann had arranged H'ouvres for $6.50 per person for anyone who wanted to eat. It was nice to meet a few new people and of course always nice to converse with the regular party goer's. We closed the party at 9:15 P.M. and decided to find a restaurant for a late dinner. Lal's Curry in a Hurry was our chosen spot tonight and we got the last table in the house. It was Lal's birthday and the restaurant was very busy.
David had the chicken curry and I had chicken frankies and deep fried potatoes which were delicious. We both had presidente to accompany the meal. After we finished dinner and most of the customers had left, a little party developed for Lal which was very nice. He served cake to everyone and offered drinks and there was some musical entertainment. We left there at 11:30 P.M. and stopped into the Hollywood Casino until 1:15 A.M. David was a winner tonight, but I came away losing $30. Not bad considering the fun I had. "Shake your Booty" just wasn't paying tonight. Perhaps it knows me now and thinks I have won enough!
A quick nightcap brought the day to a pleasant close.
Nov.17- I just can't believe how perfect the weather has been since our arrival! Sunny and hot again today! We enjoyed breakfast in the condo and then spent a relaxing morning here. We decided to go to Karakter Beach Bar for lunch and then spent the remainder of the afternoon there. The food and service was great as usual and the pina colodas were delicious. The beach has come back a bit there right in front of the restaurant so there was room for more chairs down the length of the beach. The waves were interesting but not as rough as we have seen them there and there were children enjoying the water there today with no problem.
We left the beach at 4:45 P.M. and stopped at the Greenhouse Restaurant in Simpson Bay for Happy Hour. The strawberry daquiries were so good! Since we had a late lunch, we decided to have some appetizers instead of a full meal tonight. I got the nachos and really it was a full meal! The platter was huge and topped with chicken, they were very good. David had a large platter of chicken wings which were cooked to perfection. Felix was offering the same great service and all tables were full tonight. Nice to see this restaurant doing so well as several others have failed in the same location.
We came back to the condo and showered and got ready for the evening activities. Our first stop was the Buccaneer to hear the music there and enjoy the company of some friends who had gathered there. We then moved on to Byblos with Bill, Elaine, Annie, Joyce, Matt, Todd and MJ and had a few cocktails. This is a neat little spot situated in the Simpson Bay Yacht Club area. One White Chick supplied the music tonight and it was very good. Following that we went to the Hollywood Casino to make our deposit. If you get there just around midnight the interest rate is higher so always a better return on your money! We rolled over at 50% so no complaints tonight!
Nov.18- We had decided to spend the day at Orient Beach today so we left the condo early and stopped for breakfast at Sarafina in Marigot. They have the best croissants and cappaccino and we always enjoy breakfast there. I do wish they would do something about the beggar who always stands out front and asks everyone entering there for a dollar. He says it is for food, but when we offer to buy him something to eat, he says, "No, a dollar! We have been going there for several years and I can't believe he is still there every time we stop!
We continued on to the beach and arrived around 9:00 P.M. We found a spot near the Perch and settled in for the day. The beach was not crowded today and there were several empty chairs all day. The water was warm and wonderful, but there were a few more waves than usual. We enjoyed two hot dog platters from the Perch Grill and ice cold Carib for lunch. About 3:45 P.M. a slight shower passed over and we decided that was our sign to pack up and leave the beach.
We returned via Philipsburg and there was no traffic at all so we were home in 25 minutes including a stop for gas.
Tonight we had decided to dine at Satara since there was suppose to be steel pan music every Sunday. When we arrived, the hostess was seating people indoors as there were showers threatening. Because of this, sadly there was no steel pan music this evening, but it never did rain. We were also looking forward to meeting, Brian, the owner there, but unfortunately he was not feeling well and left early.
We were greeted by the hostess who took us to a table indoors . Sandy was our waitress and she was a delightful young lady. We chose chicken satay for an appetizer and two glasses of pinot gregio and a bottle of water for the table. David and I both had jumbo prawns for the entre. I chose the sweet and sour dish with lots of fresh vegetables and rice and David had jumbo prawns with a ginger sauce. Both were delicious and the service was excellent. After the meal, we went out to view the outdoor dining area which has a wonderful ambience with lighted palms and candles. There is also a nice outdoor bar area too. We enjoyed our evening there immensely and will definitely look forward to a return visit.
Following dinner we had to transfer some winnings from the Hollywood Casino to the Princess Casino. It took about two hours to finish this job and we arrived home just as the clock was stiking 12! We just keep having so much fun!
Nov.19- Today we saw our first rainy morning so far. It was looking like it might be a rainy day so we had a big breakfast and did some reading and laundry and about 11:00 A.M. the rain disappeared and the sun shone brightly. We had decided this to be a non-beach day since it was almost noon so we went to Philipsburg to do some shopping at Cost U Less. Water and beer is much cheaper there and they also have good prices on liquor. One stop shopping is hard to beat!
On our return, we stopped for a visit with Hilma at her Windsor Castle and enjoyed a light lunch of johnny cakes and Presidente. Spending time with Hilma is always fun and she always knows the happenings on the island. After lunch we went to the Carousel for some delicious ice-cream for dessert.
We had arranged to have dinner tonight in Grand Case with Pam Hall. We went to Club O to pick up Pam and finally found parking in the public lot. This lot is well lit and seems the safest place to park. We have never encountered any problems parking there and have never had anyone ask us for money as others have reported.
Our chosen restaurant tonight was Piazza Pascal and we were graciously welcomed by Donna, the owner and escorted to our table upstairs to enjoy the evening breeze while dining. We had Mia Brushetta for an appetizer and I enjoyed the shrimp scampi with linguini in wine sauce, David had clams with linguini and Pam chose a delicious veal entre. We had a bottle of water and a bottle of wine and a rum bread pudding served with chocolate sauce and ice-cream for dessert. The bill with service charge included was 125 Euros. It was a very nice evening with good food, good service and good friends.
Nov.20- We enjoyed a hot breakfast this morning and spent the morning relaxing "at home". I was in the cooking mood today so I cooked salmon, vegetables and rice for lunch which was very good. After lunch we left for the beach at Mullet to spend the afternoon. This beach was very crowded today. The water was fairly calm, but there was a big mound of sand to get over to get to the water. The Golden Eagle and the Miranda, two large boats with lots of people came in to the beach and everyone jumped off and went for a swim.
We left the beach as the sun was setting and went to the Ocean Club for Happy Hour. This little bar is always a fun place and it was very busy tonight. Ken, the owner, a fellow Canadian, entertains his customers as he serves up some delicious drinks and everyone there always has a great time. Happy Hour is every day 5-6:30, and most people stay much longer. We got home at about 9:00 P.M. We had a light dinner here as we had appetizers at the Ocean Club and really weren't very hungry.
We decided to stay in tonight and catch up on some correspondence. A night cap brought our day to a pleasant close.
