After a long hiatus from pineapple Pete I took guests there for their first time. Had the lamb shank. Omg omg omg. Not as good as my wife makes but a close second. One of them had the garlic shrimp. Not so good. Other 2 had coconut shrimp which was mediocre. I'll go back for the lamb shank again but might have to go alone.

I've never understood the attraction that place has for so many.

A decade ago it was very, very nice. Our "go to" special place. Haven't been in years as quality of food declined.

My wife refers to it as tourist food. I would only go back for the shank if we go again.

Went there last year and had terrific plain lobster (not thermador, which was just ok). Then Skip Jacks reopened and became the lobster favorite place.

Yes, it is touristy, but we enjoy the fun, lively atmosphere. Like you said, the food has always been so so. Did you happen to notice the app menu? Might be fun to go and just have a cocktail or two and some apps vs a meal. Thoughts?

I've always enjoyed PP. Not gourmet, but always good service and decent food. It is always packed. That tells you something.

We’ve only gone to PP three times over all our many trips. The first time was for lunch on arrival one of our trips and it was very good. I still remember how good the fresh fish sandwich was. We went back for dinner another time after that and we were not particularly impressed but we kept hearing and reading all kinds of very good reviews so we went back one more time to try the lobster Thermidor. I cannot tell you how very disappointed we were. From now on, if so inclined, we’ll stick to lunch and hope for another good grilled fish sandwich. Dinner was okay but nothing special IMO and I guess I just expected more from reading all the positive reviews.

Respectfully,

pat

I have always enjoyed Pineapple Pete's but then I know what to expect. Good food (not gourmet), very good service and enjoyable music. What The Funk (made sure I spelled it correctly yikes) is currently playing on Wednesday nights and they are really good. I'm sure there are things on the menu I would not care for but over the years I have found the things I DO like and they have remained consistent. I also like Pierre and see the passion he has for running a good and efficient restaurant.

Not this time. Plenty of open tables that were not reserved when we got there and when we left.

PP is my go to place when we land on the island. I dream all winter about the lobster thermidor. I am not inclined to want to travel to high end places, not interesting in roaming the island too much. We have our favorites already. We love the open air, food, service. There may be better places but we are happy doing what we do! The lobster by the way was great for a dinner with "neighbors" and for a breakfast on the beach with scrambled eggs. Doesn't get much better for me! I am just happy I get to go to the island!

We tried PP last month after hearing how everyone loves it. I've got to say it was our worst overall experience. The food was meh, and the service was not great. I kind of feel like i wasted a restaurant choice. I guess one bad out of 10 wasn't too bad. And yes, chocolate and vanilla for sure!

Have to agree that if you have a bad meal or service somewhere or the food is just meh you need to move on. Too many choices! We have friends that like places that we don't. We too thought the food was only meh so won't go back.

Agreed PreK. The service left a worst taste than the food.

I have to say, that is really unusual. Service has always been top notch at PP.

Agreed, service has never been an issue that has ever been mentioned much. You often see several locals at PP and that is usually a good sign. I liken it to Mark's Place to the extent that it is not gourmet but usually consistent decent food at a reasonable price.

I have always had excellent service at Pineapple Pete's. Pierre always remembers his diners and comes to your table to check on everything himself when he is there. The food has always been consistent. It may not be the place for gourmet folks, but has a nice welcoming atmosphere and a fun place to spend an evening. Many locals love it and it is always busy which speaks for itself. Many gourmet restaurants have opened over the years and are now gone but Pierre has survived there for many years!

It's not a big deal, i hate complaining and cringe writing this. We are VERY easy going and probably one of the easiest tables a waiter could have. The male host and waiter were very unengaged . A female waitress came by and asked us if we needed more water and that's the only time we were touched after the order. We payed with a card at the table. Afterwards me and my wife both went wow, i think the waiter might have said ten words the whole time, and none of them were, how was your meal, need anything or thank you. We had many other great experiences and will remember that when we next year.

We hadn't been to PP in some time. No reason. We brought some friends of ours who are "new" to the island. Mike is a steak guy. He said it was the best steak he had on the island!! The other thing was , as I said, we had not been there in some time and Pierre came right up to us and addressed us by out first names like it was yesterday. Touristy??? Excuse me? But in some ways aren't we all tourist in some way??? Unless you live on the island, we all are tourist in some fashion!! We have NEVER ever had a bad meal there ever!

Never had a bad meal there....some better than others, Lobster Therm always a must do. As far as service, in my experience there was a noticeable difference in the attention received after they started to add the "Service Charge" and my tips decreased accordingly a few years back.

We went for the first time last year and I can't remember what we ate but doesn't have a bad memory for me. However the Creme Brulee we shared for dessert was outstanding. We intended to go back this year because of that but never made it
