Saturday brought sad faces on the departing guests and big smiles for so many who have more time to enjoy. We fall into the latter category and happily so.

We did finally do the grocery store thing and OMGoodness, did I quickly remember why I love Jeannie Gunthanen! We didn’t need much so I thought we’d be in and out. First mistake!! We went to the reopened Carrefour closest to Port de Plaisance. Second mistake! It’s huge and very well stocked but there’s so much to choose from and since our needs were few, I spent way too much time browsing and trying to find the few things I wanted. But finally done, third mistake - we exited the supermarket into wall to wall traffic. I had totally forgotten this is another holiday weekend on SXM. I don’t know where everyone was headed but they must have been mostly late because they were all in a huge hurry. We headed home and realized I missed one thing on my list so it meant another grocery store stop, but Carrefour Express this time.

On our way through the golf course we heard sirens and spotted an ambulance with its blue lights flashing in the actual beach area at Mullet - never a good thing to see. Hoping and praying it was nothing major but one always worries, and particularly the way the surfs been since we’ve been here. We have not been in the ocean yet........in speaking with friends who were there they said. it was a perfect Mullet Kind of Day and they neither saw nor heard the ambulance so who knows?!

And another thought - people always ask about the state of the golf course. The abundant rainfall of the last few weeks has the island in full bloom and wearing its brilliant green colors beautifully making a perfect back drop for the SXM snow, those tiny white butterflies that seem to be everywhere this trip. The golf course is no exception. I don’t know about their rates but I can honestly say, as Mullet goes, I haven’t seen it looking any better since pre-Irma. There were lots of golfers and golf carts and the few we saw close up all seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Didn’t do much more beyond wave and plane watching but it was all good.

In the late afternoon we took a quick visit to the Horny Toad to visit friends staying there and to check out the property and we even got to meet the owners. We decided to do dinner at Marks Place or possibly at Sublime, which I had heard good things about but never tried. Sublime it was and what a great choice! We had four totally different dinner selections ranging from ribs to lamb skewers and each one of us was very pleased with our selections. The ambience was sorely lacking, and quite honestly, had we been by ourselves we probably would have passed and headed to Marks, but the food and the graciousness of the staff made it a perfect choice and more than atoned for the low-keyed down home island atmosphere. The chef used to be the sou chef at one of Dino’s places - Rare or Temptations, not sure which one, before he went on his own and opened Sublime at The Summit. And then came Irma......... But again, a wonderful dinner for two with drinks but no apps or desserts....for under $50.00? I can’t believe it and all these meals have been lovely but particularly so, the ones shared with friends.

Respectfully,

pat

I too on this last trip noticed all the white butterflies all around, even heading to the Carrefour in Cole Bay. I thought it was just me that didn't notice them on previous trips. It as really pretty to see.

Thanks for the report. The big Carrefours on Saturday are pretty darn crowded! laugh Bad timing, there! Sounds like the day wound up pretty good at the end though.

Thanks for keeping us on island time, Pat. Enjoy your trip and keep posting. Flew home to 30 degree weather. I know others have already have had snow in other parts of the country so may feel like boo hoo it's much colder where we are. When left it was almost 70 in hour hometown so coming home to 30 degree weather. Well, Brrrr!

It is on the back street area kind of behind the area where The Palms is located across from The Mailbox. Sister Modesto rd. Google it of go to my facebook link for a map. It is in the Simpson Bay area but off the beaten path.

Thanks Pat, but is Sublime in Cupecoy,, at the summit or in Simpson bay? Their website says Summit. Would really like to try it but I’m confused.

The Summit was totally demolished in Hurricane Irma. The chef has opened this Sublime in the Simpson Bay area close to the airport.

I am surprised that a non shopper would go to the big new Carrefour. You should have gone to the nice smaller Carrefour in Jordon Village closer to your accommodation. It is a great place to pick up lots of things.

Their website is outdated. Use their facebook page. The location is in Simpson Bay.
