Working on our itinerary for mid-April. I was wondering about how many FCFS mooring balls are available in Great Harbour, JVD? My understanding is that Boaty Ball has taken over quite a few mooring balls and is nearly impossible to reserve through them. We never had a problem getting a mooring ball in the past at Great Harbour but we have typically chartered in June. What time do you estimate we need to arrive to get a mooring ball in mid April? If we can't get a ball in Great Harbour our back up plan is Little Harbour. Is there a taxi from Little Harbour to White Bay? Is it an option to dinghy to White Bay from Little Harbour? It looks to be about 2 miles and the longest distance we have gone in a dinghy is from Leverick to Prickly Pear island. Thanks for your help.

Unless there is a small cruise ship sitting off shore of Jost, you will not have a problem getting a taxi. If there is a cruise ship off shore during the day, most taxi's are busy. Dinghy won't be an issue either, dependent of course, on the weather.

There are taxis available in Little Harbor. I would start with Abe. He runs a taxi. If he is not available ask at Sydney's or Harris' Place. They will call you a taxi. In calm conditions you could dinghy from Little Harbor to White Bay. In any kind of chop it would be a wet ride especially in a full dinghy.

A week ago we cleared in at JVD Great Harbor. From a distance it looked uncrowded so expected plenty of balls. Up close - all FCFS balls were taken at 1300. Lots of empty BBalls. We ended up anchoring to clear in, then moved over to Little Harbor, which was almost empty at the time, and maybe 1/3 full by evening.

How many FCFS balls do they have?

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - beer in hand - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, "WOO HOO, What a Ride!"

Thanks for the responses! Any thoughts on the cost of a taxi from Little Harbour to White Bay? Is mid April typically a busy time to charter in the BVI? Boaty Ball really does take some of the enjoyment out of the BVI...

We are land based on the East End of Jost just past Little Harbour. We typically pay $10 each way to White Bay.

Abe’s is a great spot for lunch or dinner in Little Harbour. He also does taxi runs. Fast Eddie and Steven also run taxies from the East End.

Happy Planning!

We love Little Harbour and haven’t been for a few years. Great to have all the info and will be looking at this for our upcoming April and May trips .

Mid April will likely be crowded as that is during Easter. Little Harbor will have plenty of room to get a mooring ball. There are taxi's available at Abes and at Sindney's Peace and Love.

Cynthia at Harris's is a hoot. The food is excellent!
