Hi-
We will be on a small cruise ship stopping at Terre-de-Haute on Christmas day. Any suggestions for local flavor?
Thanks <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" />

Ah! Les Saintes!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" />
It is difficult to know what will be open on Christmas Day. You can wander the town area and see. The last time we were there was off season and only one restaurant was open, but it was great. The fort is interesting, but probably will be closed. You can rent scooters and drive around the island. There is a restaurant on the water where we had a couple of wonderful meals over a couple of visits. I'll have to look up the name for you. I love the Saintes...

Okay, I believe it is La Saladerie, on the water. Great food et vin. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" />

Our favourite destination in the whole Caribbean. Wish we were there.

Favourite restaurant is Ti Kaz La. Unbelievably good.

I am really envious Rick. If you get the time, go to Ti Kaz La and ask the chef if he'll do you his specialty, the stuffed pigs foot ( can't remember what it is in French unfortunately ) It doesn't sound that great in English but it was truly the culinary delight of my life!!!

Here! But was quite a slog from Dominica. Saw a lot of 28 knot winds and the last 5 miles took them direct on the nose.. I need more horsepower.. Not touching the throttle after we dropped the reefed sails.. Had 2.8 knts speed over ground motoring against wind, waves, swells, and current and went to 6.2 at the break of the islands. It's rocking and rolling here at Terre de Haute. All is well...

I ordered that on Mike's recommendation and it was to die for! Best meal of the trip!

There is a beautiful beach on the Atlantic side of the island. It is a short 15 minute walk from the main road over the hill to the beach. The bay is sheltered from the ocean swell by two small ilands and there are some food stands just outside the entrance.

Drink all day at home, your friends worry about you; do it on vacation and they say "what a good time you're having". Save your friends needless worry, travel more!

You may find one or more Chanté Nwel (caroling) in progress, most are free and you will be free to join in; real sense of FWI Christmas.

Lot of great eating and drinking there especially at that time of year. Ham in rhum & sugar cane sauce is a tradition as well as the local drink, Shrubb (rhum, Clemetines & spices). The ubiquitous carib pigeon peas w/spicy pork are common on Christmas Day.

It's hard to find a nicer place in the Carib for Christmas, sainte'
