If I'm reading this right, folks coming from the UK will need to quarantine for fourteen days. It also sounds like there will be a twenty active case threshold for visitors to be allowed in. The latter will not apply for citizens and those with the right to reside.

I find this new rule very strange, the variant is already all over Europeand the US. The UK was just good at catching the variant by genome where everyone else is too busy and playing catch up and its the UK getting crucified for it.

Also why wait till 11th Jan? Makes no sense at all but perhaps they do not want a repeat of what happned in Switzerland when over 200 UK holiday makes after arriving were told they had to stay in their rooms for 10 days and 200 decided to leave in the middle of the night.

I do not understand the 20 person limit either, perhaps thay have had 20 people with the virus come through the borders already???

I'm no fortune teller - but, with the new strain of Covid in CA and CO in the US - it's a matter of time before they ban travel from US. Why would they ban for UK and not US?

I certainly hope this doesn't happen.

As for the 2am to 5am curfew - interesting - I would hope that if anyone finds me out at 2am, take me home. Nothing good is going to happen the next day if I am out that late. At my age I would hope I am experienced enough to accomplish everything I need before 2am! lol

Banning travel from one or another country seems to me like playing Whack-A-Mole with the virus. It seems to be proven that it spreads before we are aware of it.

Just wait a few days and it will change.

The curfew is an extension of the current policy. Probably more related to smuggling than Covid.

The number of active cases had been fourteen, so perhaps the twenty case limit is related to quarantine and medical capacity - but that's only a guess.

And change is inevitable.

Is the 14 day quarantine just for tourists traveling from the UK or for all tourists?

14 day quarantine equals zero tourists!
Does anyone know how many people the BVI has vaccinated at this point? Israel has already managed to vaccinate 9% of the population and most of the very high risk people. They plan to have 25% by the end of January. The BVI should get the high risk people vaccinated and go to a single test prior to entry. They will be swamped with tourists!

Someone else should read to back up my understanding, but I think it's just fourteen days if you're coming from the UK.

Canada is instituting a requirement to have a negative PCR test prior to landing in Canada and then quarantine for 14 days regardless of whether it's neg or pos.

George was thinking the fourteen days applied to all tourists, but I think it's still four days for North Americans.

You wil also need a covid free test to enter the USVI, so I guess even if you are in transit whether by air or ferry you will need the covid test.

I just canceled my 10 day February charter in BVI which will end my family’s decade-long streak of annual BVI/Grenadines bareboat sailing charters. I cannot imagine exposing my family to the risk of BVI bureaucrats with power to put us in quarantine based on the results of rapid tests which are known to be unreliable. A family of 6 multiplied by multiple rounds of rapid testing puts the odds in favor of someone getting a false positive result requiring a protracted quarantine- horrendous. In addition to the foregoing risks, even with negative results from PCR tests supplemented by negative results from rapid tests, the the mandatory 4 day quarantine, tracing and added hassle and expense makes it all just very silly if not ridiculous... to say nothing of the unprotected anchorages at which healthy people are required to stay if they are quarantining onboard for the mandatory 4 days.

This is a classic example of a problem PLUS government incompetence EQUALLING a hot mess. The BVI just lost $25,000 in tourism.... which will instead be spent a mile away on St. John from a rented villa which ironically overlooks the SFDC we will not be visiting. What a silly shame.

Enjoy St. John, it's beautiful! For others still considering traveling, the BVI does not accept rapid testing. The only testing done in the territory is PCR testing which has a much lower false positive rate than the rapid test does.
