UGH...sorry for another question regarding this. I searched and did not find this mentioned. Traveling 5/12 I can fly AA on miles from ORD - SJU arrives1:12 - departs SJU 1:55 (Silver) Cost=$100.00 . I can book this on one ticket if I call them. That connection time seems really tight. I do plan on only having carry on. Is that too close of a connection ? Seems tight to me! There is also a 5:05 flight but I had hoped to get into EIS earlier in the afternoon. I do have the costly $294.00 Cape air option also but my return flights are expensive so trying to examine all my options. I know there is Inter Caribbean but their track record kinda scares me.
Any comments appreciated ~ thank you.

If you got a business class ticket you would be at the front of the plane and get out more quickly. I agree it is a tight connection. They close the Seaborne gate early because there is usually a bus to the far end of the airport.

If your flight is early you might make it. Ontime or late and it’s a no go. They will close out boarding 30 prior to get everyone bused out to the aircraft. Flights are arriving mostly early with schedule reductions these days. If you miss it they will rebook you on the late flight if it has availability.

You can book this route through American (arriving at 1:12 pm in SJU and departing at 1:55 pm) with a code share round trip ticket. We are traveling in June and I talked to American about this same flight and layover and they said the necessary time is built into the itinerary. Of course, a delay in your flight would be problematic. However, they assured me that if the flights are on time, the layover is long enough - even with checked bags. The agent also said that the gate would be close due to this shorter layover. I have no idea if this is true, I’m just sharing what they said.

American is out of terminal C and Silver was out of B. If the ticket is booked on one PNR it’s likely they will get you to the connection. Might even pick you up at the arrival gate since all paperwork would have been checked in ORD. They would likely hold the bus a few minutes to get you on. If it’s two separate tickets all bets are off and at 30 minutes prior they cancel no shows and put standbys on. Gates are not assigned based on connecting flights as connections are different and every arriving American flight from the US will have connections.

If you book on the same ticket, I'd say go for it. If you miss the connection, they will get you on the later flight. Since you're flying on a Wednesday, the chances are the last flight will have space. Also, the Silver flight is late quite a bit so you probably will have some extra time.

Many carriers are cancelling the earlier flights in the day and accommodating passengers on the later flights in order to keep the planes full. I've heard of many delays but not of anyone left behind. Consider it a strategy to shorten your quarantine by a few hours!

I tend to take the advice of the airline reps with a grain of salt. If they're even in North America and speak English, they've likely never set foot in Puerto Rico. Just sayin'.

Thanks everyone ~ and sorry but 5/12 was my old travel date. I am now Friday 5/14 which I hope doesn't complicate things as it is a busier travel day. (Jason...any comments ??) My intention is to book on the same ticket. Ratman's Wife ~ I completely agree. While the agent was helpful she had no comment about the close connection. I trust you all much more for this info! Thankful for you all and this forum Going to check United again. I miss traveling when you did not need a spreadsheet to keep track of all this!

If it’s on one ticket book it and go. If you miss the connection they will rebook you and you might be due compensation. Even if your not due compensation a polite email to their complaint department might get them to throw 10,000 miles at you. Don’t be afraid if they are rebooking you to request the next flight regardless of operating airline. They will auto rebook on their partners but you might get them to move you to a earlier flight on another carrier.

Jason - we are booked on a 5:55pm flight — at best it has only taken off four times in the last month.....and it is a daily scheduled flight.

There is very limited traffic in and out right now. I'd guess the traffic is less than 10% of normal so that number of flights sounds about right.

From what I can see...the last time the flight actually took off and landed was February 20...not encouraging....

It's even more worrisome when they take off and don't land.
