Yes, the WHO and the CCP coming up with a plan where you'll have to show your papers in order to travel anywhere, facilitated by the Biden administration? Seriously? Be very careful what you wish for.

Ok....I won't respond to the CCP thing (Chinese Communist Party) since that's WAAAY out there reference but: International health regulations for travelers require inoculations only against yellow fever. The WHO has advised countries not to require COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of travel. However, some countries have started to check for proof of vaccination to avoid quarantine and testing requirements — and the WHO’s vaccination record can be used in some circumstances. ...and If proof of vaccination card lets me travel then I am all for it....if anyone has issues then don't get it...kinda like the vaccine itself. Do what you think works for YOU

The warning is because cases in many states are on the rise...."impending doom" might be a bit aggressive though ...and.....at least in RI the increase in cases are in groups that haven't been given access to vaccine so it might make sense... RHODE ISLAND Providence: Public health officials are monitoring a recent rise in coronavirus cases among children ages 10 to 14. The age group now has the third-highest rate of weekly infections, WPRI-TV reports.
Only the 15-18 and 19-24 groups have higher rates, state statistics show.

The vaccine only works if you TAKE it. Our county had a positivity rate of 9% yesterday.

The vaccine only works if you TAKE it. Our county had a positivity rate of 9% yesterday. Taking the vaccine is a personal choice. I don't understand those who choose not to take it, but I also have no sympathy for them if they become ill. They won't infect me, and while that statement may seem selfish, their choice to not get vaccinated is even more selfish. Yes, some people have not yet had access to the vaccine, and those people need to continue to exercise caution until they can gain the protections that the vaccine provides. We've all been vaccinated against polio, smallpox, MMR, chickenpox, and no end of other diseases that have been all but eradicated because of the availability of effective vaccines. I stand by my statement that a prediction of "Impending Doom" is fear mongering, and totally uncalled for.

The virus has the ability to mutate and has done so, and the current vaccines may or may NOT be effective against the mutations, so the sooner that the vast majority of people take it, the sooner everyone will be safer.

The notions that there is "fear mongering" and "well, *I'm* vaccinated" are exactly the problem that Dr. Walensky is warning about.
Too many people in general, and state governors in particular have apparently decided that the pandemic is over and there is no longer anything to worry about. However the amount of the population of the US which is fully vaccinated is still small, and the amount of the rest of the planet even smaller.
While the vaccines offer near 100% protection against severe illness, they're offering only about 90% against infection. We don't yet know if it's possible to be infected after vaccination and be contagious. And if you can be infected, you're possibly contributing to the mutation and production of new strains. There is ZERO guarantee that this thing can't/won't mutate into something that is resistant or totally unaffected by the vaccination. So being immunized is very important, and everyone who can, should. However at this time taking precautions to protect yourself and others is also STILL important. And if Dr. Walensky needs to fear-monger people into better behavior, so be it.
In the mean time, we also have to beat back conspiracy theories regarding a Vaccine Passport, which is utterly ludicrous. I get where Dr. Walensky is coming from!
Stay safe folks!

Hubby and I FINALLY managed to get appointments for vaccine. We were constantly told no appointments due to no vaccine.or both of us.
But we still had trouble getting same day appointments for both of us even though I saw many times available when I booked hubby's then went back for mine and got "no appointments available choose another place. I waited a minute tried again and the appointments were there so I'm not sure what's going on here in RI. At least when I scheduled 1st appointment it also came back with a date and time for 2nd shot.

Rosemary--glad you have been able to get your appointments. It has been a tribulation for many, that's for sure. boucharda--we had to go 45 minutes one way, and thought our trip was one of the longer ones! Will move this thread to People Talk, since it really isn't about SXM anymore..

Scubaman--Yes.. That source is not reliable at all. Ridiculous. With all due respect, did you read the article? The cases quoted were pulled from local news outlets and ABC News. Those aren't reliable either? I am not anti vaccine at all. It's a choice you have to make yourself. I'm sure I will get vaccinated sometime soon. But in the meantime I just want to see how it plays out. ALL articles from ALL sources help in making my vaccination decision. Just because I don't agree with a site's opinion doesn't mean it is "ridiculous".
