Hello,
We are planning are first flying visit to St Martin in May. We came to St Martin on a cruise 14 years ago and the excursion took us to a place called BooBooJam. We walked on the beach that day had a drink at coco,'s that allowed topless/nude sunbathing. We liked it. Would we still go to BooBooJam and walk or does Cocos have their own parking.
Thanks
Liliana

Liliana--Boo Boo Jam is no more, sadly. And many of the other restaurants have relocated from where they were. If you want to go for NUDE sunbathing, your only choice at this point is the former Club Orient resort. Topless is technically allowed anywhere on Orient.

No problem. Please post here, or in the regular SXM forum if you have any other questions. Lots of choices for restaurants all along Orient and all have plenty of parking.

The "nude part" is actually clothing optional, and one can wear or don't wear what they want. according to their comfort level. No one cares, however when we were there a couple of weeks ago, 2 couples showed up, and tried (fully dressed) to set up their own chairs in front of the front row, blocking other people's view - a no-no. Regarding beach bars, you'll find quite a variety, all with plenty of parking. A couple of favs - the shrimp Caesar salad @ the Perch Bar & Grill and thin crust pizza at Orange Fever.

Biturbo--thanks for that correction regarding clothing optional. Long time visitors to Orient know that, but the original poster is a newbie. And, just so she knows, the Perch is the only restaurant on the CLOTHING OPTIONAL grin section of the beach.

Thanks Biturbo and Carol. I'm sure we will make this beach several days of our trip. I saw where the resort was destroyed. Is it safe and is the crowd there mostly nude?

As far as safety, do NOT go back onto the Club Orient property where the destroyed buildings are, as occasionally some bad types are hanging out there. Perfectly safe to be on the beach. I am talking about during the DAY, of course. There are usually a fairly large number of people on the Club O beach. Unless at the hotel where you are staying, or right at a restaurant, do not wander the beach at night, anywhere. It's a fair mix of people on the Club O beach, some nude, some not. In many cases, one partner is nude, the other not. No one really cares how you are dressed or not. Bring (or buy, if you don't have one) a pareo, so that you can wear it or not and if you are getting too much sun, cover up.

You'll love it, Liliana. Not a scientific study, but when we were there 3 weeks ago (seems longer), I'd estimate 90+% of the people opted for no clothes. One day we didn't get there 'til 11:30 and the only chairs that were left were in the 2nd row. Happy Hour @ the Perch is 1:30 - 2:30 (2 for 1). The 1st 2 days were quite windy, after that it was nearly perfect beach weather.

Yes, they definitely rent chairs. On credit cards, jeez, I don't know. One thing to consider--Club O rents chairs, but if you are facing the water, immediately to the left of the Club O chairs, another vendor also has chairs that you can use while clothing optional. The Club O chairs are orange strap chairs, not that comfortable. The vendor immediately to their left, facing the water, has PADDED chairs, and they also have a small table in between the chairs. I think the price is exactly the same as the Club O chairs--$20 for two chairs and an umbrella, and in the case of the other vendor, a small table, which I love having that. It's not a far walk from the other chairs to the Perch, as the Perch is on the end of the beach closest to the other chairs.

Thanks for the options. Hope they take cards to avoid hauling cash without a pocket! 😄

The vendor immediately to the left (blue chairs) was not there during our recent visit. Maybe further up, I don't know, but further up is not c/o. I've never seen CCs used at the Perch. The guy who rents chairs has an FB page - Club O Beach by Cedrick - he could probably answer your question. We use a lockable beach bag, and we attach its chain to our chairs. We also have mats (similar to workout mats) which make the chairs more habitable.

Biturbo--wow, that's disappointing, with regard to the other chair guy. We will have to post a note closer to our trip in June, to see if they are around at that time.

I read somewhere where the vendor to the left is no longer there...although the chairs were more comfortable, we have had bad experiences there both times we tried them. The massage ladies and other vendors were relentless and very pushy with their sales pitches and we ended up leaving after not much time. We observed the massage ladies giving money to the guy that was renting the chairs, giving the appearance of some sort of business relationship between them(not that there is anything inherently wrong with that). We simply retreated to the Club O side and enjoyed ourselves much more.

We also noticed how relentless the vendors were in the blue chair area, including the guy who made custom swimsuits (Luis).

The last time we were there, I did buy a pareo from Luis. I actually don't remember other vendors coming by, but they probably did.

TKP, if the weather's nice get there before 10. Find 2 empty chairs with an umbrella and the attendants will find you. The Perch has really good food (I love the grilled shrimp Caesar salad) and drinks (HH 1:30 - 2:30). Throw on a bottom (your chair will be tagged) and walk up the beach to a number of excellent beach bars, where you can get everything from burgers to more upscale, even escargot and chocolate mousse. And Orange Fever has great pizza. Go for a swim or a walk and enjoy.

Biturbo was replying to TKP, and when you pay for your chair, the vendor will tag it, or you can tag it yourself to let others know it is "taken".

Does the Perch Lite take credit cards. Also is it still $20.00 a day for two chairs and an umbrella

It is a family-run cash operation and the chairs and umbrella are now $25 for the set. I was pleased that the busiest part of the beach was the clothing-optional section and because of it, there were far fewer gawkers.
