Woke up to one of the most beautiful rainbows I have ever seen. A really nice start to another great day on St. Maarten.

Carol......really just settling in so far. Weather was a bit iffy last night so we ate in. I brought down a small electric grill (as well as frozen steaks and seafood) so grilled steak and shrimp last night. Heading to Rendez Vous Lounge in a few hours to enjoy the Sunday Jazz Brunch. That's as far as we've gotten into today's planning.

CaribLee--where are you staying that you have to bring down your own grill?

We may try to get to Rendezvous Lounge for the jazz day. Sounds lovely. We used to love going to Dreams on Sunday..

We stay at La Terrasse where we rent from a private owner there. Have a beautiful view and it's really nice to be able to walk to places when we don't feel like driving. Also love the pool here.

And regarding the grill, it fits in my carry on and works quite well. Since it's electric, I don't have to worry about using it on my balcony. Very convenient

Carol,

Over the years we’ve stayed at many places that don’t provide grills. I know our timeshare at the Towers didn’t have them and didn’t want people buying/bringing/using their own.

Some people are very neat and careful when using them and then there are those who could care less if they make a mess or smoke their neighbors out, not to mention the remote but still real possibility of a fire occurring.

I think it’s great that BSV and others provide them but I always thought they were the exception and not the rule.

Respectfully,

pat

Pat--I knew that most timeshares don't have grills for the units, but I thought many or most had some grills scattered around the buildings. And the fact that Beachside has grills is VERY important to us.

CaribLee--I love to grill, but not sure even I would go that far, but glad it works out for you.

Yes BBQ grills are a plus. We are fortunate to have them for our personal use on our deck but Flamingo does have them available in he courtyard of villa building 4 and between villa building 6 and main building 7 for guests to use.

Carol....a pic of the electric grill I'm talking about (thermostat that plugs into the side not shown). It fits perfectly in my carry on luggage and only takes up about 1/4 the space. Cooking burgers tonight after a nice pool day. Lunch at Driftwood where the wings were really good (wife had ribs) and I still haven't found a better rum punch. Watched them make it and the secret ingredient might be amaretto. Going to give it a try this week.

CaribLee, We often stay at Belair and they do not have grills so I too get an electric grill and bring it with me as we usually stay 2 to 3 weeks. They are about $40 - $60 or so which is well worth it. I also leave it for housekeeping as a gift. I do wash it for them : ). So it is a great idea but you are right carol not for everyone.

WILLVINO......just looked on Amazon and one like I have is $26. It actually works quite well and the wife says it is very easy to clean (I cook, she cleans.....thank you dear). We grill most of our meals back home so is nice and convenient having one we can use on our balcony. I realize it's not for everyone but suits us perfectly.

Falernum is the key ingredient.

This electric grill is very intriguing to me. We have one large community grill at Divi but I was never sure who cleaned it and what happens if it's being used when I needed it. I just find it so much easier to grill and really think almost everything tastes better grilled. What brand do you have? I checked on Amazon after reading your post this morning and the price range is pretty wide. I'd be curious which one you use --

This grill looks exactly like the one I have. Seems to get good reviews. Once you learn how it cooks it works very well. And takes up very little space in your carry on. It's big enough for four medium size steaks, or six burgers, or any other similar size combo you desire.

Thanks for the info--i think the group we're going with this year prefers to beach until the moon comes out and then eat-in. I'll check this out, thanks.

That has to be one of the best rainbow pictures I've seen in a long time.
I will also be at La Terrasse in a few days. A few doors down from you.
Seems I will be smelling some good food cooking on that Grill.🙂
Say hello to Jesus at the bar.

Cheers

CaribLee, Thanks so much. I saw that and ordered one. I had not ordered mine for my trip in July yet so this was perfect. Thanks again for the recommendation. The one I take has a lid and the price is now closer to 100 so I am glad you sent this. This will make it lighter and easier to take.

Can't wait till July

Good deal. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. Grilled shrimp and scallops last night for my alfredo pasta.

I'm jumping on the bandwagon about the Rum punch at Driftwood!!! We were there this past April, decided to take a dip at Maho and watch the planes from the water. After, we treated ourselves to one of their amazing rum punches and louise had a mango coolatta!!! Imho, the reason there drinks and food is so good (beach food) is that most of the staff has been with them for a LONG time!! Besides all the drinks ( that we had) are made fresh!! HEAR HEAR for Driftwood Rum punch!!
