Will post this on Afloat as well but have a couple questions for those in the know. We are taking a cruise to the Med next year. Never cruised nor been to Italy. The plan is to fly into Rome Sunday and do the sites before catching our cruise on Wed. When we return the following Wed. from the cruise portion we will not arrive in time for a flight home the same day. Here is my questions...

1. Is there anything to see or do out by the airport if we get a hotel out there before our flight?

2. Good places to eat by airport that you would recommend?

3. Airport hotels you would recommend?

Thanks!

Hi

When we did Italy a few years ago we thought the Hilton Garden Inn was one of the best airport hotels we have stayed in....super comfy bed and one of the most traveler friendly/efficient designs--not one inch of space was wasted--was very high techy. We arrived late so did not eat there but they had a restaurant/bar and a 24hour convenience store with snacks/drinks.

While doing all the usual suspects in Rome, try to make time for the Capuchin crypt--unusual burial caverns full of monk's bones arrayed in artful designs--it is tasteful and respectful and the monks did it themselves! eerie and out of the ordinary....

We are doing Venice to Fort Lauderdale transatlantic in October--coming up soon!

bon voyage,
margie

Hi there~

thanks for the suggestions. We have booked at the Airport Marriott since we had some points we could use. We STILL haven't figured out how to get there from the port as I hear the train doesn't go to airport from there. We thought we would like to just relax by the pool and have a quiet day before heading back to the states. We will have done all the sites in Rome pre cruise. We might go back into Rome if there is something we really want to see but thought we might just relax and go to Lido di Ostia beach or stay at hotel. Not sure about places to eat as people keep mentioning places in Rome. Might be our only option but hope not. Have you taken the train from airport into Termini? Thanks again!
