We will be arriving in STT in November taking a boat from IYC in Red Hook. Does anyone have any casual recommendations for dinner in the area after a day of travel and provisioning?

Thanks

My favorite area!
ITP (Island Time Pizza)for pizza and fun.
Tap and Still for great burgers and beer on tap (still uncommon in the VI)
Fish Tails for, um, fish.

If you don't like the looks of these, there are several more around within walking distance.

We have always enjoyed Molly Malones for their grouper sandwiches in addition to the previously mentioned.

Tap & Still also has Bonchon-style KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) wings, along with their 5 Guys style burgers. The owner is a Northern Virginia guy and the food shows it.

Molly Malones is comfortable and can accommodate a group at tables.

If you have wheels or a dinghy, Latitude 18 has frequent live music and decent food.

Cheers, RickG

Ate at Fish Tails a couple of years ago and it was excellent!

One little warning... we walked outside to get a taxi after dinner and some guy walked up and said "taxi this way" motioned for us to follow and started walking off. We followed him for about 50 yards until the little light went on in my head. I'm not following somebody I don't know up an unlighted alleyway... So anyhow, you can get a taxi right there at the restaurant.

I ate lunch at Fish Tails on Sunday and it was great. Fried oysters, Greek salad with grilled shrimp, grilled fish sandwiches...all very good.

My favorite food in Red Hook has always been XO Bistro across the street from the AYH Marina./
Molly Malones has been taken over by 2 brothers who also have had a vested interest in Fish Tails.

LocalSailor: I like XO, also, but it is SO loud in there. Impossible to have a pleasant conversation with the person sitting next to you.

Re: Molly's- What about the rumor that the Philly and Notre Dame stuff is gone and it is turning into a Boston bar?

And to Rick: How on earth can you get past the burgers and eat chicken wings at Tap & Still? I am compelled to order a burger when I go there, so I can't go often.

Nutmeg, try the wings. Korean-style is great. Go great with the Rogue draughts. But, there is something magical about a simple hot burger in a brown bag full of hot fries.

Cheers, RickG

Eh, I am not crazy about chicken wings. Maybe I'll try one if someone else orders...

And I am also hearing that it is Fish Tails folk taking the Molly's space. That is a good ting!!

I'm not sure if it has been discussed here, but the Cellar is closed and undergoing a complete renovation. Interesting, as they just redid it a year or two ago. I've heard two rumors: one that they want to compete with XO as a wine bar deal and also that they want to compete with Tap and Still. Ha, ha! Good luck boys...

How is Pecci doing, we love that place albeit pricy, always very good. Jess at XO is a great gal and runs the daytime operations. The only problem we have with XO it's like a meat locker in there.

funny, I go there because it is as cold as a meat locker. Great place to hang for a while when the weather is so hot and dusty.

XO for Fine Dining and great wine list (pricey)
Island Time for a great view of the marina and fun vibe. Food is pub fare.
Pesci has decent Italian food, but pricey.
Tap and Still has AWESOME burgers and hand cut fries. A fun vibe there, too, and can't beat the prices.

The re-renovation of the former Cellar is moving along. It is obviously an attempt to rip off Tap and Still. Open air, big bar, etc. They took one of the nicest places in Red Hook (the first incarnation of the Cellar), spent $$$ renovating it a year or so ago, now this. Hmm...lucky there is the Tap and Still!

Also, Revelry (the former Coco Blue) is closed.

Haven't been by to see what's shaking at the old Molly's.

The place in the old Cellar space is open. It is called "Melt" and is touted as a "gastro-pub". Molly's is also open, same name. Haven't looked at the menus yet...

Fish Tails was great on Friday. We had 3 Groupers and 1 Mahi and were very happy. The wine list is quite reasonably priced. The Blue Point oysters were pretty good considering season, time and distance.

Cheers, RickG

Molly's has been cleaned up, painted and now has Boston team paraphernalia on the walls. The menu is unchanged (unfortunately), but they promise it will be soon. If they can bring down the price and bring up the quality, they might have a fighting chance.

Went by Melt. I don't get it. Basically all sorts of cheese sandwiches- that's what "gastro-pub" means?? The lighting is atrocious; it's green like an old hospital operating room. Skee-ball and shuffleboard tables. Cheap well drinks.

Meanwhile I stick by my faves- Tap & Still, Fish Tales and ITP...
