We have never experienced this before in any of our travels. Wife and I stopped into Yellow Sub for a drink after a long day on the beach, we were seated at a table and nobody bothered to serve us for at least 10 minutes so we decided to mosy on up to the bar and sit there, after 5 minutes of no service my wife walked over to where the bartender was talking to a few of his friends so she ordered drinks for us, a glass of pinot and a rum and coke. We watched the bartender pour the pinot into a wine glass and he realized he had poured a little too much, perhaps 1/4" too much, but not a lot, so he took the glass and poured the excess back into the wine bottle, I mean c'mon, really? After we quickly finished our drinks i called him over and asked him why he did that and that we had never seen that before, his abrupt reply was, I poured too much and he walked away. They just lost two regular customers and btw I could hardly taste the rum in my drink.

Thanks for that information. Too many other places to go to.

Wow, that is pretty unusual. That bartender apparently has better things to do than serving customers and that is totally unacceptable. And I don't think that is sanitary, to pour wine back into the bottle. Hate to condemn a whole business for one employee's screwup, but sounds like there should have been a server at your table also.

Michael and I went to Yellow Sub this past winter and we experienced less than stellar service as well. We also felt like we were bothering our server.

Same for us. Inconsistent service is the issue for us. I want to like Yellow Sub, normally 1st night in Orient we are a little tired from travel and jus want a spot for a drink and nibble. Yellow Sub so hit and miss that we walk past.
Really hoping Peter McCool works out, arriving Mar 26 for 3 wks, will find out next wk!

Have only sat at the bar and received good service, but have witnessed people sit at tables and end up leaving due to slow/non service. Unfortunately a pattern I think.

We went there last year practially every night for a drink after a long day at the beach and service was good but this was unacceptable, I really get the feeling that the workers and servers at Yellow Sub don't like English/ American tourists, they are hard left French with attitude.

It is most unfortunate you had that experience. We ate there 3 times in January & had drink at bar once. Excellent friendly service & the food was good. Waitress remembered I had latte & asked was I having that again. Waitress even joked with us.

We had a great dinner at Yellow Sub in January our first night. My husband stopped in for a lunch he enjoyed another day.
Tried going back for pre-dinner drinks another night and bartender literally rolled his eyes at us (we weren't ordering anything weird or complicated and certainly weren't being disruptive). It was very awkward and we didn't go back. To compare and contrast - I know many here are not fans of Bikini, and while it wouldn't be my first choice on all of Orient, we opted to go there for an easy departure day lunch in lieu of Yellow Sub, simply because the same bar tender would've been serving us. Not writing it off totally for next trip, but as others have said, there are too many good places to go somewhere (and spend money, and time) where I feel unwanted.

Two years ago, I order a medium cooked cheeseburger and fries. The fries were great, but the cheeseburger was over cooked and actually burnt on one side. The server never asks how the food was after she put the plate on my table, and I never saw her again. I might go back for a beer but no mixed drinks or food.

We've eaten their several times and thought food and service were hit and miss. We stopped in for a beer on one of our beach walks and were ignored at the bar. I had to get up from my seat and stand right in front of the bartender to order. I thought I was on an episode of Punk'd and was waiting for Ashton Kutcher to jump out....lol.

In recent years service quality at the Yellow Sub has declined. But we have found the food quality not as good as in previous years, too. Nonetheless, we did stop there once for drinks this past February and were treated to the same inattentive service described by other posters. However, this problem exists everywhere it seems and is not confined to the island. By comparison we had excellent service on both occasions we went to Mandarin.

IMHO, the food was NEVER all that good!!! The drinks and service was always subpar at best unless you are a local!!! I know we were all thinking that this could have replaced the old Bikini HH pitstop after the beach!! Corina made great drinks and the burgers were great!!, it was a fun atmosphere!!! It's to bad that Bruno has nothing to do with "YS"!!! He would never tolerate this "BS"!!! Has anyone been to Peter McCools???

Sand Gravity, got to love it!

With the best location in the village, they have always been mediocre (avg) at best. They should hit it out of the park with best burger/fries on the best beach in the world. But they don’t. Biggest peave , almost always flies buzzing in there. But we usually fall in their lap at least once a trip.

If I had an experience similar to yours I would return another day with a cute picnic basket. I would chose a nice table and serve myself. Watch how fast the servers would run to my table!

Yellow Sub never was a great place to eat no matter who owned it. This past winter we enjoyed breakfast there many times the girls serving us were very nice. Its different than Good Morning so it was a nice change. With all the other options for dinner we didn't eat very often other than Playoffs or Super Bowl. Nobody shouts American more than i do with my Harley tee shirts and hat collection but never have been ignored for service. When we enter we say hello and check where they would like us to sit. The way the place was built if only one bartender is working they don't have a good view of the whole bar. So maybe that's why but who knows. But like i said I always engage whoever is working there. Now we do love Yellow Sub for the music especially Reggae night. If the singer has a fun group its a blast. We are 70+ but have so much fun that we have stayed past 11 sometimes OMG

We have tried it for dinner year after year really wanting to like it and hoped it had changed, but alas It just doesn't. Sometimes we just want a simple meal and it fit the bill. We have had all the same issues everyone else has mentioned, and will not return again, although breakfast was pretty decent.

So sorry to hear but this of all the times we went there their service was great and food .
Actually we always use a young Black girl that's fair skinned and she is always very nice to us . But yes , the White French guys do have an attitude .

Maybe locals are treated better.
