Good day! Has anyone used the Trellis Bay fuel dock? It appears to be 4.9 feet at it's greatest depth. Curious if my cat that has a 4 foot draft would be fine?

If your charter is less than two weeks you really should not need fuel. If you draw 4 feet you should not however have an issue at the dock. If concerned go at high tide.

You can also just go to Scrub which is nearby.

Scrub (Island Market), Hodges Creek or Fat Hogs Bay (walkable Riteway) have zero depth issues.

Thanks for the info everyone! We are going for 3 weeks, so will need to fill-up once. We are also dropping and picking people up at the airport, so figured two-birds one stone and then saves 1 dinghy trip with luggage.

If you fill up at Scrub, your guests can use the ferry.

You did not state if power cat or sail cat. With My Lagoon 46, I plan a fuel burn of 12 gallons per day and that is with Generator running 12-16 hours per day. So extremely rare for us to even reach 50% with 2 week trip.

Keep in mind if it’s a Moorings boat you can fill up for free at the base. They also might still allow you to fill free at BEYC. Wish I could go for three weeks!

Well the fuel is not free, but for sailboats it is included in the price of the charter. You can refuel at no cost. As a owner I wish that was not the case as some people start the generator leaving the dock and shut it down at the end of the charter.

@GeorgeC1 - I looked at the Moorings contract in the BVI and one full tank is included. Perhaps I missed something. Wouldn't people siphon off 10 gallons or more a day and sell it on the secondary market, then refuel with impunity?

At the Mooorings, the boat is delivered full. You're charged to refuel the boat when it's delivered back to the dock. No different than a rent car.

@Harleyk - but @GeorgeC1 states otherwise, which really surprises me; but he owns a boat in Moorings charter...

The Moorings website says fuel is included in sailboat charters. I have helped people set up many charters. No one paid for fuel unless it’s a power cat.

@GeorgeC1 - the Moorings website says one full tank of fuel is included in BVI sailboat charters. Nothing about free and unlimited refuelling. Just like many car rentals, return the tank as close to empty as you can; but any refuelling while underway isn't free.

George and I are both owners... the owner use portion of the contract provides for returning to the base for fuel or new linens with no stated limitation. I don't know if that's true for regular charterers.


That said, I've hardly found it necessary. We've been out on a 45 for 4 weeks and used a fraction of our fuel.

Last November my wife and I were on a M5000 for 10 days prior to picking up guests (and topping up) and we had used 36 gallons.
