We were at the tiki huts couple times in the past few years just for drinks. Glad that I didn’t see that sign or I might have passed out. We bring our own chairs to Hilton Head since we drive there.
We are at Hilton head now for 2 weeks and also dive and bring our chairs and umbrellas. The rental of chairs on most of the beaches are conducted by college students as life guards rental agents and are less than posted but still more than st Maarten. Bob
Talk about gouging the clients!! What was the number 3 with the dots top and bottom mean??? That's terrible!! At $65.00 even if the clients don't return it, they got there money back!! I guess???

I believe that is a symbol for the word "and" or "ampersand", as in chair & (and) umbrella.
You can order two chairs ($42 x 2) and an umbrella ($31) on Amazon for about $115, and have them delivered to wherever you're staying on HH, and use them over and over. And walk to the bar to get your food and drinks.
It's my guess that they charge $65 because there are enough people (tourists) that will pay that much. It's capitalism, and if the folks at Tiki Hut can get people to cough up $65 for beach chairs and an umbrella, good for them. Nobody is being forced to pay it. It's a free market.
I mean, there are people that pay over $200 to change the color of the hair on their head. Me? I think that's completely nuts. But if a hair professional can get that much money from people for the service they provide, good for them. Go get it.
And, yes, the backward "3" is a stylization of an ampersand (&).
Tiki Hut on HHI is a very cool place to hang out, it’s been years but we had a blast there. Beach chairs are pricey and definitely wouldn’t go every day. But looks like it has beach service now. The music daily is awesome. When I searched it has definitely expanded over the 10 years since I was there. Daily - no thanks. But one day. Probs!
