NHC 11pm projection is banking on a turn north starting tomorrow and more north Friday, but she has moved due west to a little south in the last 11 hours.

Curving WNW shortly which is a good thing. Heading to North Carolina to our beach house to take in the patio furniture before Tuesday. AI and computer models are correct and this system goes out to sea.

Here on the island, people are getting ready, just in case. Buying bottled water and getting ready to bring outdoor furniture indoors.

Good to take those precautions. Having bottled water on hand not only good to have now but for future storms.

We are on island as well. By tomorrow, we should have a sense of where it is heading (as it relates to St. Maarten). Virtually all models have it passing north. Shouldn't be too bad if that is the case as we will be on the backside of the storm (although backside doesn't mean as much in the middle of the ocean versus on land) . Fingers crossed.

This is Windy's prediction for the storm. It shows what I mean by being on the backside of the storm. If it were to go just south of the island, all bets are off.

Leaving the island in a few hours. Boat preparations are underway. The bridge went up a few times in the last hour. Safety first I guess.

I use a pilot cockpit oriented ap named ‘ForeFlight’.

It is just a map that can superimpose your planes position with weather radar and/or satellite/Satalite infrared.

I can drop a lat/long mark and it will remember it and show the track. In the last 12 hours to 11am Thursday, it has moved due west. No curve to the North.

I have watched numerous events this way including the biggie in 2017.

Hopefully those who get paid too do this for a living are right about the curve North, but I dont see any turn at all and Thursday is half over.

Absolutely every spaghetti model has it going north of St. Maarten (from the weather channel 15 minutes ago). Let's hope they are right.

Eye appears to have made a tiny turn North in last 4 hours. Maybe they are right in predicting a right turn.

She made a nice turn to the North in the last 12 hours.

Storm is now a hurricane. No change in watches or warnings yet--SXM in a tropical storm watch.

This is what it looks like now. You would never know a storm is on the way.

Interesting, the chairs are all still out. Do they seem to be doing any storm preparation?

As an owner, if they are concerned, they send us an email with regard to furniture off our balcony, etc.
My take on this so far is that Royal Islander does not anticipate high enough winds to require moving any of the furniture.
I have been there when they have. They can do it quickly.

At the pool now. Actually a pleasant day so far. Planes still arriving and leaving. Will be getting worse tonight and tomorrow. But not expected to be too bad.

Erin is now a Cat 4! Thankfully, as of now, only a tropical storm watch for SXM. Looks like SXM will dodge this one.

Light rain and light winds on the island this morning. Waves don't seem that high, either. Cloudy, of course. Not a major event, at this point.

Sounds good. Apparently the airport is open today but several airlines have cancelled for today and rescheduled for tomorrow, out of caution.

If you didn't know there was a hurricane out there, you would think it's just a normal rainy day on St. Maarten.

On infrared satellite, you (SXM) have an orange band over you the same color that surrounds the eye.

High tide will be at 2:28 pm today with winds out of the SW. Should make for interesting viewing on the SSBB Maho Beach web cam.

KLM flight 789 to SXM left Amsterdam at 10:24 am and was over the Atlantic when it was diverted back to Amsterdam. I would assume because of the weather.

I just saw where PJIA posted on their Facebook that the airport is now closed; reopening tomorrow.

Winds have picked up but nothing really threatening. But I do understand why the airport would not want to take any chances.

Windier now than at dawn, and the waves are higher. Rain is still light to moderate.

Im glad we got back home safe and sound from burglaries and hurricanes.

With PJIA closed today tomorrow will be a sh*t show.

Significantly higher winds and very big waves crashing against the shore now at 6:00 pm. Trees bending sideways.

Replying to nobody in particular but I spoke with my island friend of 34 years a couple of hours ago. He said nothing too bad is going on. Some wind but nothing too severe. The airport is closed due to the inbound flights being cancelled. Hopefully, things get resolved but tomorrow could be interesting.
