We are back for our 5th charter, but our first time hosting 2 other first time couples. They have asked if we should rent beach chairs and umbrella since they are only $20 week. My wife and I have never done this before, as we do not typically spend much time sitting on the beach. Assuming they will want to spend time sitting on the beach: Our first thought was that there are lounge chairs available at most places and I assume the cost is comped or not too crazy if you buy something at the associated location. Or even it costs something, the host location may not want you to drop your rental on the beach? Any thoughts for or agin? (we are on a 47' CAT with 6 adults and the chairs seem small, so I doubt storage space is an issue).

I replied on FB (as did many others) that beach chairs would be more trouble than they are worth. You likely wouldn't find many opportunities to use them or need them, and they will be a pain in the dinghy. In many, many weeks in the BVI, we have not felt the need for them. Usually, it's more comfortable on the boat anyway. Beach is great for walking and play.

Never have I noted anyone lugging beach chairs in a dinghy.

Good morning! We are beach people, and I actually asked BVI SUP Co to get some beach chairs for us to rent 5 to 7 years ago. They say that they do rent with some regularity. I think the key is whether you will be in locations where you need them. They put them in a large carry bag – usually two per bag. This helps to protect the boat and makes it easier to throw them in the dinghy. We are down for two weeks in the summer, and we use them three or four times total. However, on Valley Trunk in Gorda – which is our favorite beach – we really like having them. We also use them on the beach in Guana and the beaches in St. John if we go to the USVI. If you do not plan to hit these types of beaches, clearly it is not worth it. They are a pain in the [censored] to get in and out of the storage areas and in the dinghy. They also take up a lot of room in the dinghy. Have fun!

Nice for land vacation. Not so much sailing.
