I’ve always taken flight to STT and then took ferry to BVI. I now see theres a flight from Miami in. Any advice on reliability in and out appreciated. Thank you

It has been our preferred option for some time now, and we've probably taken it a dozen times at least, were unable to land and had to divert to PR once. It can happen, but we still prefer taking our chances vs. STT and ferry.

Or, may I suggest You consider flying through San Juan P.R. (SJU) to the BVI (EIS).
Please book directly with the Airline.
Cape Air has code share with some of the major airlines. Please do Not use InterCaribbean.
With most code share it is the responsibility of the Airline to get You and your crew and all their bags to the BVI, regardless of winter weather or aircraft issues or aircraft crew issues such as time-outs or virus tests.
There are more flights through San Juan (SJU) to the USA, than St. Thomas (STT) to the USA, so there is more flexibility in SJU for delays and re-booking, and possibly a better price through SJU.
If You are brave enough, you may consider ‘hacking’ a separate ticket RT between SJU/BVI for a better price.
You can connect to an evening flight from SJU to the BVI and enjoy a Sleepaboard.
If you need to overnight on the way down good options are SJU or FLL.
The Ferry cost is about $100 each way with Taxi and Taxes and Baggage costs.
The ferries are now within about $200 of the price of a flight with all the Taxes and Taxis and Baggage fees.

From Canada, Europe, and the USA, don't forget to check flights to St. Martin (SXM) and a flight on WinAir (WM 49) at 6:40 PM from St. Martin to the BVI.

STT and Ferrys -
You need to arrive before 15:30 / 3:3PM to have time to get your Luggage and catch a Taxi to catch the last Ferry at 4:30.

When You arrive in STT and after You pick up your luggage go to the taxi dispatcher and ask for the Tortola Ferry Terminal.
You will be assigned a taxi van.
Inevitably You will have to wait for the Van to fill.
The Taxi is about $15 plus luggage & tip.
You will not need reservations for the Ferry.
Lots of room on a first come first serve basis.
If You have to wait more than 30 Minutes for the next Ferry there is a little restaurant & bar upstairs.

And, for the only 8k FF points one way > I don't care if they lose one of my bags in-transit or not.

I have been able to get the flight as low as 8000 points but it’s not the norm. It’s usually about 25,000 and higher in some time frames. They will divert if the runway is wet and if the delay in SJU is to long they will bring the flight back to MIA rather than stranded the crew and aircraft in Tortola. 90% of the time however they are able to grab fuel and get back to EIS if they divert.

Sticking to ferries still...so many options not to get stranded or miss your flight..

We’ve flown that flight the last two years with no problems.

Our first trip we did the MIA to EIS flight on AA. Got delayed in MIA due to issues with the runway at EIS, then further delayed due to weather in MIA. Got to EIS 4 hrs later than planned, missed the ferry to JVD, but hopped a ride with a guy we met in our plane. It was an adventure! Last year we flew into STT, overnighted there, and ferried over the next morning. Next year we’re doing STT and then private water taxi.
