We just got back from a Canada/New England cruise. Portland was one of our ports of call.

We had lunch at the Dry Dock Restaurant. It is near the water front (no view and not fancy). We had the best New England clam chowder that either one of us has ever had, and of course, lobster rolls. They were very good, but not that different from some others we had.

My grandfather was from New England so have lot of clam chowder to compare it to.

Cool swg.

We loved Portland. We had dinner Saturday night at Dimillio's on the Water and did lobster stuff. Boston was clam chowder and Portland was lobster hah.

Hey Brian, with all the help you got here, you've got to do a better trip report than that!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

If you are staying in Portland, plan on spending time around the Old Port and Commercial Street since it is easy to walk, full of good food, and the waterfront vibe is great. A small rental car also helps if you want a quick coastal drive to places like Cape Elizabeth, and October evenings can feel chilly near the water. For the Boston side, I once used Blue Nile Livery for an early airport pickup and it made the travel day much smoother.
