Rosemary, do you remember Tabba Khady? Carole's store is right next door to where it was.

Georgia - can you give us a better idea of the location - the restaurant you refer to was closed before we started going to St. Martin. Thanks.

Gotta Caribbean soul I can barely control and some Texas hidden here in my heart...(J.B.)

Oyster Pond across from L' Oasis

There has been a market at this location for 18 years! Many different names over the years

I think so. Across from where Le Frigate used to be? Around the curve from Oyster Pond but before BZH?

Thanks Kaye.

When I read Soualigacapt's post about L'Oasis I remembered that was the new name of Le Frigate. By the way a couple of years ago we had a very good inexpensive meal at L'Oasis

Soualigacapt---if you sat outside at L'Oasis is iL'Epecerie what once was the little market you see across street and down a bit?

If you are heading towards the French Quarter, the grocery is immediately before BZH, both on the left. To do it my way, go to BZH, make a Uey and you're there.

Yes. Same place new name. This property is constantly changing operators and names. I don't hunk it has had the same person operating it for more than a year or 2 during the 16 years we have been in Oyster Pond.

I sincerely hope that Carole changes that trend! She's a delightful lady, and deserves to succeed.

What type of products is she selling? I couldn't tell from your photo. I mean it seamed like a mixed bag---wine, shirts? Is this a place where I can get my pate, french cheese, baguette, fruit, French coffee etc?

Not Norm, but I can tell you that Carole will have all of those items. You know her, so you know she's a wine expert, and her selection of wines is quite extensive. She's also bringing in lots of gourmet products from Normandy. She has fresh baguettes daily, and while we were chatting with her several local folks came in and purchased a baguette, some meat and cheese, and sat on the tables out front eating their lunch. She talked of having rotisserie chicken and other prepared foods at some time in the future; I don't know if she's gotten that in place yet.

Great Thanks Kaye! Oh yes, a wine expert. I remember ordering something by the glass because that year we were not stayed at GCBC, had to drive across the island and didn't want to drink a lot. She said that choice wasn't very good and that she'd open a nice bottle for us and charge us 1/2. Needless to say we returned for another dinner and consumed the rest of that bottle.

Carol's such a nice lady we of course will give her our business. I hope she does well.

As Georgia said she has some meats, cheeses, pates, wines, as well as the more common stuff you'd find in a little deli. She has many plans, walls, wine tastings, etc. She's only been open since end of October after the Hurricane and it takes money and time to complete her vision.

Sorry - don't know where L'Oasis is either - I do know where the docks are to board Captain Alan's boats - is it the same area?

They are all in Oyster Pond. Capt. Alan is on the Dutch side at OBBR. The market in on the french side on the way to Coralita and French Quarter. Opposite one of the roads going to Capt. Olivers.

If you just drive to sightsee and turn on road to Planter restaurant then turn left after that follow road you'll eventually end up coming out a road that puts L"Oasis at your left and turn right at the end of this and there's Carol's store on left.

Or you can just leave PB area follow signs to Oyster Pond go past Pizza place on left overlooking Oyster, Les Balcons, road swings left and L"oasis on right, Carol's on left and just past that is BZH for great crepes and gallants. All the gendarmes eat there. At home we say where the cops eat must be good that's how we came to try it.

If you stay on this road it's a nice, pretty drive---some goats, chickens to watch out for then you'll come to some town where there's a maze of streets. We got lost ended up on a dead end at a school. Stay away when school lets out---kids & traffic! Eventually we came to a cross road with a laundry on left . We turned right and found ourselves on way to Orient, Le Gallion etc. We weren't lost at all. HA!

It's fun to explore the island, find new things, places. The worst that can happen is you reach a dead end. Once we took the road to the prison on PT Blanche---those guys have a great view!!
