Interesting. Possible Hard Rock Hotel.. Huhm, without a casino? I don't think so. So they will have to resurrect the additional casino license question.

Huhm... A reef lagoon with a shark and stingray observation area. Sounds like they couldn't shove through a dolphin prison, but it's ok for sharks and stingrays?

Interesting. I thought there were talks to build a hard rock casino where the Hollywood is. In fact employees told me they had put a non refundable deposit down in the millions. Hmm. Will have to inquire in April

Yup, it was supposed to be where Hollywood is, but I guess the litigation regarding Pelican is STILL not settled, after all these years, as an appeals court has overturned the lower court ruling. So I doubt Hard Rock would go forward there until that is finally resolved.

I thought they bought the old Bashuri in Aruba to build the hotel/casino.

I think there is a Hard Rock going in, in Aruba, yes.

I guess it's supposed to be mainly for cruise ship passengers, but honestly, SXM has just about the most to do of any cruise ship port that we have been to in the Caribbean already.

Kind of a weird location...I don't think too many cruise people will stay at a large (or any) hotel

Good! There was talk last year about something in Simpson Bay, and I was hoping this wasn't that! I agree though, that cruise ship passengers certainly won't be using a hotel.

Well, I saw something in the paper the other day which led me to believe that the project of the cruise ship pier in Simpson Bay will probably go forward also. There is a TON of political money behind that one...

With SXM becoming a originating for cruises it is hoped that it will attract people coming for their cruise. I read that in the DH when this whole thing started. Remember, Caribbean Cruise Lines is one of the backers of this project. Also, the 200 hotel allows them to have a casino without government approval.

I think it's just easier to get a casino license if you have a hotel with 200 rooms. There still has to be government approval to open a casino, one would think!
