I understand that and I do tip on the island and even very well when it's justified, but when I receive a bill for $18 for a hamburger and $6 for a can of Diet Coke, and when this bill mentions "service included", I assume that the waitstaff has already been adequately compensated for the job and I don't have to add 15% or 20%, so I just leave a couple bucks.
I believe that's a legitimate assumption, no?

What do you do in this case?

I always tip as I do at home, 20%. If I receive good service I believe the waitstaff should be compensated, I really don't care what the bill says. This is their jobs and how they make a living,I find that everyone on the island is friendly and courteous, therefore I tip them no matter what the bill says.

I would say do whatever works best for you. If you feel they have been adequately compensated then that answers your question. However, I always leave an extra 20% that is my own personal choice. I really think if you feel that strongly about it you should ask next time you receive your bill then make a choice from there. I never assume anything I always ask.

If I saw a menu with a $18 hamburger and $6 coke, I'd eat elsewhere

That was my point...don't sweat it just leave a couple of bucks. UNLESS, service was so bad that it didn't warrant anything extra.
