I'm heading down the 2nd week of June and was wondering what the condition Orient Beach might be in with the construction and such. Thanks for any input.

Construction? We were there in January and the beach was more narrow at the end near Pedros but otherwise in good shape. Some seaweed but it was quickly being taken care of on most of the beach. It seems to change quickly and we've never been in June but I'd expect it would be fine.

June is supposedly when they are going to tear down all the 'shacks' down the beach and put in pre-fab restaurants, parking, shops, restrooms, etc..

Thanks Carol, I remember hearing that but forgot.... Too bad because I like Orient just the way it is and that is part of the charm of Orient. Oh well, guess I'll learn to adapt and I usually hang out at Palm Beach but will miss some of the old haunts.

So far......there is no word if they are going to go forward with the boardwalk at orient or not. All of the shack owners are up in the air as of today anyways. The consensus what i can find out is that very few of the shack owners think it is going to happen. If they poll the touritsts that use these shacks, they will find that NOBODY is interested in turning it into the Phillipsburg boardwalk or the like. Stupid idea to begin with....but time will tell.

Agreed. It is fine the way it is.

Just to add a little to EdB post. I just got back from two weeks mainly at Orange Fever. I talked to four owners and all agree as EdB said no real word at this time. One was concerned because they told her the project is supposed to be completed in 6 weeks. She said "nothing happens in 6 weeks in St Martin and I could be closed for a long time". Another was concerned that the building will be new but all table, chairs and equipment will be his responsibility. And stated it will most likely require new or additional expensive fixtures. Another said " it's not going to happen, the French Government doesn't have any money". The forth one I talked with thinks it will happen. I told him "I like it the way it is" and asked it he thinks it will be better. He only said, "we'll have to wait and see". So as you can see I don't know anything either. Just a report of my observations. Bill
