I haven't been to the island in awhile, do they accept American Express. I know years ago not many places accepted it. Mostly Visa and Mastercard

I read an article in a South American ( El Tiempo) newspaper last week. Bitcoin is getting popular there. Who of figured. But it also said Aruba was using this currency more. So since Aruba is a subsidiary of the Netherlands. Would SXM be accepting this too?

I have no intention of contradicting anything said before this post for the sake of being right. But, I have found American Express to be in a very distant third place in St Maarten to a) cash b) Visa/MasterCard.
That has just been my experience based on the number of establishments that accept it or not.

In March, American Express was refused at the Greenhouse and Bon Appetit. Many of the Front Street stores either do not take it, or would most reluctantly....with a large purchase. The reason given was that the cost of doing business with American Express is just too high for the merchants.

Since 1986, Aruba is no longer part of the Netherlands Antilles. They are a separate entity under Holland with it's own currency.
However, the idea of bit coins is intriguing.
