My wife and I were on the island in December and the seaweed was quite a problem for us. It seems like there are still mentions of it. When we were there in December, it was a major problem on Orient Beach and several others. Is it still lingering? As bad as it was in the fall/winter? Or is it starting to dissipate?

We were down in March, some seaweed. Seaweed was not a problem, but to be honest, it would not have mattered. Seaweed or not, we still had a great time on OB.

Comes and goes. The last few days have been fine,then yesterday the beach in front of La Playa got slammed. Seems to be a reoccuring theme. The Club Orint part of the beach seems to fair the best. From Coco to Mount Vernon with the exception of the area in front of Palm has lots of seaweed and in front of Mount Veron unwalkable. Have never seen it this bad and can see the beach venues are struggling to keep up and dispose. While not a daily event in just apears cyclic.

This sounds about like it was when we were there in November/December. The beach staff that we spoke with at various places said it comes in so quickly that they can't keep up with it. We arrived at Kakao one morning around 9:30 AM, and Cedric told us it had all been cleaned up by a tractor by 7 that morning, before he put out the chairs. It was already back, a swath about a foot wide at the shoreline. By the end of the day it was at least three feet wide there, and wider in some places. At that time, the "Five Stars" had a man hand-raking it at their five locations all day long, just to keep it a bit under control.

When you are arriving by aircraft and on your final decent look at the water and you will see lines of it all over the surface. It was very evident (from the air) in January but not very much made it to shore.

We saw the same thing on Saturday.......at first we didn't realize what it was, thinking the seaweed scourge was long done with but as we got closer it was pretty clear - the normally turquoise appearance of the waters was a muddy looking greenish-brown in wide swatches as we approached the airport.

Just arrived yesterday and saw quite a bit of it in the water from the air. The beach in front of the Caribbean Princess has a huge pile of it next to Coco Beach and I was watching one fellow drag more to the pile. Looks like the beach is very narrow compared to other years.

They had a fishing tournament here on Sunday and the anglers said they caught more seaweed than fish :-(
