I was so impressed by Desmond Samuel that I decided to break this info out vs getting lost in a long trip report.
I discovered his name via an online endorsement (I think it was trip advisor) from a visiting cruising sailor. Everything they said (and more) was true.
I asked Sunsail about him before I arrived and they confirmed his reputation, so I requested him for my arrival airport transfer. Based on the initial reaction , we decided to use him exclusively during our time on St. Vincent. We never had a 2nd thought.
I've used and met other drivers on St. Vincent including the famous Phyllis but Desmond stands head & shoulders above them all.
His professionalism, thoughtfulness, kindness, gentle style, proper driving and knowledge of so many things are just a few of the attributes that left us so impressed.
We utilized Desmond three times including an extended time on Monday 5/19 which started at the Kingstown supermarket pickup then moved on (all planned) into a tour of the windward side & Montreal Gardens. In my trip report I mentioned his extensive knowledge of all the flowers, plants and trees in the gardens and surrounding areas. My crew knows that stuff and she was blown away by his expertise. We just wish we had more time to do a longer tour or an additional one.
He also helped us make decisions on routing, timing, other needs like helping me secure cough medicine from a pharmacy on our way to the airport as we were leaving, delivering a run away ipod (not mine ) left at the base voluntarily to the airport and the list goes on and on.
Yes, we were paying customers and the man is in business. But I never felt like it was just a "transaction" to him. He is a true St. Vincent gentleman who has traveled the world & is worldly.
We saw how everyone along the way knew him and how they interacted. His discussions and explanations of all things St. Vincent (and other topics) were informative and insightful.
He can handle small or large groups because he has two vehicles both passengers vans including a beautiful brand new(think it was a special order Toyota) very-very large one that can take at least 10 (probably more) people & luggage.
So if You want the best and don't want to worry about being a tourist in a "strange" country. Then Desmond is the ambassador to help get your trip off on the right foot.
