PART 2
Woke up Sunday Morning and had breakfast at our Unit midmorning, then off to the Marigot Waterfront to commence our Scilly Cay adventure. Record time to Marigot thru
Cole Bay, 13-14 minutes, where is all the traffic we had been reading about on the board?
Best to have a calculator now to keep track of this adventure. Departure Tax and Ferry fees, one way for two, $40.00. Taxi from Blowing Point to the Scilly Cay area + tip, $32.00 one way. Pleasant Driver Benson. Now on the dock awaiting the older wooden Dory type boat to come and pick us up with a French Family of 6 with 2 kids and two other ladies. The boat arrives 10-12 minutes later and away we go. The Cay is about say 2 City Blocks or so out. We arrive and note some canopy type structures with thatched roofs, a bit Survivourish, looking but no Jeff Probst.
We walk over to the main dwelling, which houses the Bar, about 6 tables, white plastic décor as on St. Martin. The Band plays later in that area from 1 to 3 p.m. No electricity as we had read but ice makes things like Beer and Rum Punches cold. We pick out a table and crash, Patti gets the Rum Punch and I settle for a Heinie. Within 30 minutes or so, there are about 20-25 people including a young couple from an oversized Cabin Cruiser from Miami moored just of Scilly Cay and the family we came over with and some other couples. Within earshot are two resort owners who extol the virtue of installing LED pool lights to the Owner of the Desert Rose Resort, who notes that $1,800 per week there in the off season is a steal.
Our order is taken about 12:30, no menu, but 3 choices, Lobster, Chicken or Fish (can’t remember what) cooked over a natural barbecue. We order the Lobster of course and are asked if we are allergic to Peanuts as they use a peanut based sauce, we aren’t and order another Punch and Heinie. Keep track now! The Lobster arrives and looks to be about 1.5 lbs or so. It is moist and tasty and we detect another flavor which is later confirmed as curry, we did enjoy it. I take some pictures of the plates and area which I hope Benson enjoys. I have 2 glasses of wine with dinner.
The Band starts to play just as we are finishing, so we move over to the Bar area to enjoy them and Patti continues to sip on that second punch remarking it is stronger than the first one. I drink two more glasses of wine, they are not that large. Finally 3 o’clock comes and we decide to cash out and head back where we hope Benson is waiting. The Bill arrives on a blank piece of paper, (remember there is no electricity) there are 7 characters on the palm sized paper. $230.00, having no idea if that includes service or not and now in a hurry, I add a $30.00 tip which the girl appears grateful for.
We get back on the boat with a band member and another older couple. (We are in our 50’s) It is evident that he quaffed a few more drinks than me. Patti decides at the dock to be neighborly and we allow them to accompany us first with Benson back to the Ferry Dock. We help him crawl into the Taxi. We hold our breath enroute hoping he can hold his lunch down which fortunately he does, now back at the Dock where I pay another $32.00 tip included. They continue on elsewhere. We get on the Ferry, you got it, $30.00 To get back to Marigot. We will be doing Pinel next time! And our Camera if you didn't p/u is in Bensons Taxi!
