With all due respect to the few SXM legislators who are genuinely interested in solving the timeshare problems on St. Maarten, IMHO, this is just more blah, blah, blah on their part.
We've owned island timeshare on SXM since '86 and I've listened to and read about countless attempts about to happen to protect the timeshare purchasers and the industry, too. The results to date are zilch.
It would be nice and we keep hoping.................. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

I totally agree with you Pat, but I truly hope this discussion disintegrate into a "you're a fool to own timeshare" discussion. We who have owned for a long time know full well what we are doing, thank you. That being said, I do wish they would appreciate the money and continuity that "timeshare people" bring to the island, and help us out.

Marge,
I'm sure any subsequent posters won't make this one of 'those' threads you're thinking of as the comments are so old and so often off target.
Those of us who are happy with our timeshares will never convince the nay-sayers of their value, and the nay-sayers will probably never 'get' our reasons for being satisfied with them. And that's okay.....those of us who are happy and satisfied owners 'get it' completely..
I truly hope for those who aren't as happy or who have been mistreated in their timeshare experiences are finally able to reach some satisfaction, but isn't it sad that it has to come down to legislation as opposed to companies doing the right thing?! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Sorry Pat, but we will not get satisfaction as we have had our two weeks at the Caravanserai erased by trickery. I am 78 and can no longer transfer our weeks at either The Caravanserai or Mary's Boon to our children. That was a major plus that we lost.
We are very grateful that we do get to go to enjoy Mary's Boon but cannot bank, trade through RCI, or skip a year.

I thought the previous company filed bankruptcy? Was anything ever proven in that case that they kept selling timeshare units after they knew they were filling BKO and keeping money? Also regarding the exchange companies - that is never a given, I know it said that in every timeshare contract I have signed, The Towers, Royal Islander, Vistana, World Golf Village and Disney. All stated they can cancel the exchange company at any time.
