Well, just got back to the UK from Tortola on Friday and here is a quick rundown on what we got up to (well, not quite everything we got up to

)

We travelled from Glasgow - London Gatwick - Antigua - all went well until we arrived in Antigua and missed our onward connection with LIAT - we were all checked in and just waiting for our bags to come off the BA flight and they just wouldn't wait another 2 mins for us! So, British Airways put us (and 15 others) into a hotel for the night in Antigua. We got the first flight with Caribbean Star to Tortola the following morning (6.40 am) (incidentally, Caribbean Star were fantastic - great little airline).

We arrived at Beef Island and jumped in a taxi to Long Bay Beach Resort - about 45 mins away from the airport. It was a lovely morning, until we got to Road Town when the heavens opened (BIG style!) - huge puddles everywhere, drains overflowing etc - we felt totally at home - at least the rain was warm! Arrived at Long Bay and shown to a very nice Beachfront room with a lovely balcony overlooking the beach.

I won't bore you with details on our quiet days at LBBR - it was lovely and relaxing - we didn't feel the need to go anywhere for 6 days when we hired a car and had a day going round the island - all very pretty and worth doing. Had a wander around Road Town, did a bit of shopping (although unfortunately nothing from Columbian Emeralds!)

The hotel itself was good, the food was excellent, varied and of good quality. The location was lovely with a beautiful beach which was very quiet. My only complaint would be that the Reception staff were hard to get going on a particular task - it took a bit of reminding! Also we had a couple of minor maintenance items which needed attention in our room, but nothing which spoiled our experience of the hotel and holiday.

Thanks for all the advice from here - we had a great time!

Alison
