Got back from Morritts Tortuga CLub on Saturday 4/13/02. We had a good first visit to GC. We wish the weather would have been more cooperative, but one can't control Mother Nature. We found the resort and staff to be very good. We were fortunate enought to be upgraded from a one bedroom unit to a 2 bedroom ocean front 3rd floor unit. It was huge. It had 2 bedrroms, 2 full bathrooms large living room, dining room, full kitchen and a large private balcony overlooking the beach. The kitchen had everything one could need to prepare meals. However, we only had breakfast and made a couple of sandwiches one day for lunch. We ate out the rest of the time. The only drawback that we had at Morritts is the distance from Georgetown and Seven Mile Beach. Also the wind blew about 10 to 15 knots day and night which made for bad diving/snorkeling conditions. They told us that the wind doesn't blow this way all the time, I hope not.

We did get to dive stingray city. It was fun but we knew conditions were not good when the divemaster said to add an extra 5 to 8 lbs of weight to our weight belts as the current was pretty heavy. We did buy the video of the dive and will treasure it as one of those first timer memories.

As for restaurants, we tried Portofinos,The Lighthouse, Rum Point, Cracked Conch, and Davids at the resort. Our favorite was Portofinos. Our least favorite was the Cracked Conch-it wasn't all it was cracked up to be(lol). We tried a bayside restaurant/bar for lunch in Georgetown/only place we went where the service was really bad. We only had fish sandwiches and a beer so the food was ok. We enjoyed eating under the trees at Rum Point for lunch and snorkeling off the beach there.Surf wasn't as rough there as it was at Morritts.

I was impressed by how friendly and helpful the people were all over the Island. And how clean it was. We did the Queens Gardens, the Turtle Farm, the Tortuga Rum Factory, the blow holes. And yes, one day shopping in Georgetown. We went from the East End to the West End and places in between.

We would like to go back but we would not stay at Morritts again. The only reason is the distance from everything. We have no complaints regarding the resort, staff or Tortuga Divers. Everyone was really great there. It was just too far away from the main areas of GC.

We only had one downside to our trip other than the wind. We rented a midsize car thru Budget. When we picked it up they gave us a paper to mark any damage on, which was fine. Car had alot of front end damage which we noted. When we returned the car, the lady went out to check it over and asked we had been in an accident. We told her no that if she would look at the paper we had noted the severe damage at the time we took the car. She said that she rubbed her hand over it and paint came off which indicated to her that it was damage over damage? Told her she better take a second look at the paper where we showed the damage as we had not been in any accident and was not responsible. She went and got her supervisor, who said,"Oh yes I remember that car it did have all that damage prior to our renting it. So we didn't end up being charged for it. So I will not be recommending Budget Rental Car to anyone.

So anyways thats it, we are back and planning our Dec. vacation to Aruba. And hopefully making it back to GC again in the future.
Suzanne
