Five years ago, I was sitting under our palapa at Hidden Treasure (our home on Anegada) when a fellow that I had met at the Cow Wreck bar walked over and asked me if I had a magnifying glass that he could use.

I told that indeed I did, and I asked him what he needed it for.

He said that he wanted to propose to his girlfriend, and wanted to burn the proposal into a piece of wood.

We made a plan.

He burned his proposal into a piece of driftwood that he had found on the beach.

Later that afternoon, I took the piece of wood and the engagement ring and hid them under a bush in one of the beautiful spots on the west end of Anegada.

I marked the bush with a stick with a piece of orange tape on it so that he could find it, then came back and told him where to look for it.

He took his girlfriend on a walk around around to the west end. He went up to the bush line and returned to his girl.

She said "Yes!"

I was in the bush nearby with my camera when he made the proposal. They showed the proposal photos at their wedding.

They come back to Anegada every spring!
