I'm not sure if I'm to post this here or not - if I'm in error, please let me know!
We chartered from Sunsail - frist time with them for us. We stayed at the base the night before boarding the boat. Nice facilities - great shower facilities - good restaurant. We left St. Vincent for Mustique on Sat. - got into the channel and had a problem with the engine so returned to base. Sunsail staff fixed the problem and we left again and motor sailed to Mustique-made it just as the sun was setting. There weren't lines on the mooring balls-another couple who were chartering with Sunsail came over in their dinghy and assisted me getting the line thru the ball. We ate breakfast early the next morning at Basil's (good) and then sailed around the island during the afternoon. We ate again at the buffet at Basil's for dinner that evening (good!) and reasonably priced.
Left Mustique2 says later for Tobago Cays - stayed in Cays 2 nights. Now I must tell you the boat boys take some getting used to. Two of them were very helpful when I accidently brought up another boats anchor! The chain jumped the cog (?) and our anchor lterally FLEW out of the locker - when I brought it back up I had the other anchor along with ours! oh No My first attempt at anchoring was not going well!
The boat boys we found a pleasure dealing with were "Tyrone Sam" and "Free Willy" in his boat "Arrival". The boat boys can drive you crazy but they do provide a service and all were polite when we said "no thanks". One exception was we were "ripped off" by a boat boy and his younger sidekick for a lobster dinner on the beach. This guy was using another boat boys name - very deceptive - name of the boat he was using was "rising Sun" - we agreed on a price for 1 lobster and 1 red snapper. AFTER we ate he tried to charge us $320 EC and there were 3 of them (smoking grass I might add) and only 2 of us - my husband argued them down to $120 US- we were at their mercy - dark - only ones on the island , etc. Not a good situation. That is the only problem we had.
Gorgeous place to be at anchor!
From the Cays we went to Salt Whistle Bay on Mayreau - pretty anchorage. Hiked over to Saline Bay and stopped for a drink at Island Paradise and J & C's - neat places. We ordered a grilled lobster from "kojack",boat name "More Fresh" and he delivered it piping hot and on time. Nice guy to deal with.
From there we sailed to Petit St. Vincent -one night at anchor there.
One night at Canouan - mooring ball from "Marcus". Went into Tamarind's Pirates Cove for a wonderful seafood pizza in a beautiful setting - great drinks also.
Last two nights at anchor spent at Bequia - one of my favorite places - went to see the whale they had just gotten and the turtle farm. The man who raises the turtles has made it his life's passion - great person and what a great cause.
We ate at the Whaleboner Inn (resonable and good) first night. We bought baked goodies from the Gingerbread Bakery in the mornings - great stuff!
Then back to Sunsail base - spend last night at Beachcombers (nice!) and ate at Ocean Allegro (WONDERFUL!).
Anyone whith any questions, feel free to email me at
Sally0715@aol.com. I'm still trying to adjust to "real life"-hope this info is helpful to someone!
