Would that happen when you present the new replacement passport? Not that I think lying is a good idea....more just curious if everyone who looses a passport and applies and receives a new one has to go to the back room.
The issue is if you use the passport you reported as lost/stolen. When you get a "replacement" it's a new passport with a new number, i.e, it's not a duplicate of the old one. The one that is reported as lost/stolen is flagged as such and if anyone tries to use it I'm pretty sure bad things will happen.
