SXM Day 11 – October 14, 2020

Woke up at 7:15 AM, the latest time of the entire trip – such lazybones we are! Ate leftovers for breakfast and headed out for the beach just before 10:00. There were rain showers again last night and the Beacon Hill lakes are growing. I fear if it rains again tonight, we will be stuck here (wishful thinking). After a couple of brief stops, we arrived at Orient at 11:00. Traffic wasn’t particularly heavy, but there are a lot of slow drivers on the road.

Our time at Club Orient beach was great, with a nice breeze to keep us comfortable. We set up our chairs and umbrella to the right of the Club O chairs. There’s a lot of seaweed there, and at times it’s a bit stinky, but that’s where the cheap seats are located - LOL. I took a short walk along the beach, but Marc is content to stay in his beach chair. Time was spent reading, doing crossword puzzles, and soaking in the beautiful blue ocean water. The clouds rolled in around 12:30, so we drank our beer and packed up our stuff at 1:00. I think there were about 15 people on the beach today.

Lunch was at Lagoonies. The restaurant was busy, and we grabbed one of the last spots in the parking lot. The bar wasn’t crowded, so we grabbed two seats there. Service was a bit slow as the bartender had to make drinks and wait on all of the tables. She was doing a great job, but I really felt bad for her. Marc ordered the chuck burger and I had a Caesar Salad with Shrimp. Marc’s sandwich was flavorful, served with salad and fries. My salad had five jumbo shrimp and was tasty too. Lagoonies is currently not open for dinner, but well worth the trip for lunch.

We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing in the pool. Then the clouds and rain came. No beautiful sunset tonight.

Based on a recommendation from the bartender at Lagoonies, dinner was at Isola, near the Hollywood Casino in Pelican. It was our first dining experience at this restaurant. An offer was made to dine inside or outside, and I opted to diner outdoors, much to Marc’s chagrin. It was probably not the best choice, as it was hot outside, with little breeze and no great views. Lily was our lovely waitress tonight, providing great service. Marc ordered a Chicken dish (cordon bleu) and I ordered Veal Saltimbocca. Both were served with sautéed spinach and truffle mashed potatoes. Portions were generous and very good. We didn’t have room for dessert, but Lily served us small snifters of Limoncello as an alternative. The drinks were cold and refreshing on a hot night. Another great dining experience.

We arrived back at the villa and started packing, as I want to enjoy every last minute of our time in SXM tomorrow!
