Hello everyone,
Here is our trip report. Thanks for this forum -we did a lot of things that we learned of from this forum. Would like to add a few pics but cannot figure out how. It was our first trip to SXM, and we loved it and want to return. We at all times felt very safe. We stayed at Grand Case Beach Club for 5 days, then over to Club Orient for 4 days. Only negative I have to report is the potholes on the roads - my wife actually got a little seasick from them. Other then that, the people, the food, the water, the ambience, the prices, the attitude of the island were all wonderful.
Monday 5/31 Flight from Raleigh to Miami to SXM, picked up car and wondered why the guy stressed the flat tire and its accesories so much. Drove off the Dollar rent-a-car lot and quickly realized why – the roads were rough to say the least. Lots of traffic around the airport but after we got out of the area, we moved right along. Much hillier then I thought it would be, but also more beautiful then I ever imagined. Got to our first resort, Grand Case Beach Club, and chilled out. Walked into town and had a quick dinner at a Lolo. $16 for both of us, we were both full and the ribs were out of this world. Very nice people running the Lolo's in Grand Case Village.
Tuesday 6/1 Early b’fast at GCBC, drove to Cupecoy Beach – gorgeous! Cliffs were gorgeous, water clean and blue. Not too busy, maybe 50 or so fellow nudes, we got the cave right in the middle and relaxed. To the left, there was a guy crowd, to the right, mixed couples. One cliff boy present, he asked for a smoke, we said no, and he left us alone. Drove to Maho Beach for lunch at Sunset Beach Bar - had our first Carib Beer. I am not much of a beer driner but I quickly fell in love with them down there. Saw some large planes land at airport - very cool. Back to Marigot for market – Eileen got a table runner - great deals. Back to Grand Case Beach Club, got a kayak and paddled out to Creole Rock for some snorkeling. Decent snorkeling. Drove back to Marigot Marina for dinner – superb!
Wednesday 6/2 Drove to Phillipsburg, shopped and walked. 2 cruise boats in dock so it was very busy, but fun. Walked along Great Bay. Went to Orient Beach on way back and had lunch at Pirate Restaurant. We had the same waitress from our breakfast at GCBC, and she told us that she worked at the Pirate in the afternoons too. Food was great at Pirate - excellent Mahi-mahi sandwich. Drove back to Grand Case Beach Club, picked up a couple of 6 packs from The American Supermarket, and chilled out. I snorkeled for a while on the beach right behind GCBC while Eileen read. Snorkeling decent. Meant some nice folks at the pool. Eileen and several other ladies were topless and no one seemed to mind. Went to Lolo for dinner. Again, cheap but tasty food.
Thursday 6/3 AM – snorkeled at Grand Case, chilled at beach/pool. Lunch at a Lolo in Grand Case. Back to resort, chilled at beach/pool. Went to the Mall of the West Indies in Marigot. Dinner at Lolo in Grand Case.
Friday 6/4 Breakfast at Resort. Hiked from Friars Beach to Happy Bay – had the whole place to ourselves. Stunning views from the hill. Back to Grand Case for Lolo lunch. Relaxed at pool and in room, dinner at La California in Grand Case.
Saturday 6/5 Checked out of Grand Case Beach Club, went back to Cupecoy, lunch at Cupecoy from locals.Tell them what you want to eat at the top of the beach and they bring it right down to you. Felt like donald Trump! One cliff boy, said hi then left us alone. We got the same cave. Checked in at Club Orient. Walked the entire beach nude at sunset - beach was pretty much deserted and it was very very nice atmosphere.. Met some nice folks from Ithaca. 5th year anniversary dinner at Il Nettino in Grand Case - again outstanding.
Sunday 6/6 Chill out all day at Club Orient. Breakfast at Baywatch, owned by a couple from NJ. Lunch at Baywatch. Very nice people. Okay to eat there nude. Walked to boutiques on Orient beach, Eileen got an ankle bracelet. Walked east around point of Club Orient, towards St. Bart’s. Rocks were volcanic and sharp! Very impressive waves there where the Caribean meets the Atlantic. Met a nice guy from Italy who works in California named Antonia that could not keep his eyes off my nude wife we talked for a little while - pretty funny, Eileen seemed to enjoy it though. Tried snorkeling at Club O – not very good. Walked again at sunset the entire beach, met a nice couple from Ohio. Had ice cream at Papaguoyos at Club Orient –the best ice cream I have ever had. Dinner at a Lolo in Grand Case.
Monday 6/7 Breakfast at Club O because Baywatch is closed on Mondays– so-so breakfast. Walked beach before the tourist arrived. Took a boat to Pinel Island via a small boat at Cul de Sac. ($5 per person round trip) Great snorkeling east of the boat dock where there are floats identifying good snorkeling – found a secluded spot and took off Eileens bikini for the day and drank Carib's :-) Ate lunch on Pinel also, there are two lolos there – we went to the less fancy one. Went to Maho for dinner and saw the show at Sheryl’s Place in Maho – first rate and free! Spent $12 on slots and walked away with $17 – enough for a drink!! High rollers huh?
Tuesday 6/8 Breakfast at Baywatch. Chilled at Club Orient all day. Lunch back at Baywatch. Walked Orient at sunset with two other couples – Dinner at Papaguoyos, killed a bottle of wine, and hung out with some nice people from Virginia for a while.
Wednesday – flew back to reality. Very depressing.
