Dawnskers’ Trip Report on her first visit to SXM
Thursday, April 28th Day 1
Got up 2:30- 2:45 AM to get ready for airport transportation from Englewood, FL to Tampa. Delta to Atlanta was on time, 1 ½ hour layover, then on to SXM! Had 20 min. “maintenenance delay” but pilot made up time in air and arrived on schedule 1:50 pm. Breezed through immigration, picked up one checked bag and headed outside where rep from Kenny’s had a very nice, roomy Nissan Almera with a/c waiting for us. Did paperwork there in parking lot- he handed us a parking stub which we paid on way out $2 US. Had arranged via internet to rent phone from Sharon Harris and went straight to Royal Palm to pick that up. Met TTOLers Gary and Maria (TOMAPOP)- very nice! We chatted a bit about the TTOL party coming up on Thursday @ Los Gauchos and sailing on the Golden Eagle- Sharon came down right away and explained how to use the phone and we were off! Headed back past the airport over to Summit where we had reservations thru CheapCarribean.com for two nights. Nice suite with kitchen including full size fridge, microwave, stove, toaster oven, blender, coffee maker and even a small dishwasher! (and of course, A/C) Gorgeous view and steps away from pool/bar area. Bar opened @ 4 pm and Thierry and Chloe arrived right on time to take care of us. Served us some wicked margaritas and a few tiny (8 oz. bottles!) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif" alt="" /> Heineys and we gradually came to the realization we would NOT be getting back in the car for our dinner reservations at Halsey’s at 6 pm. Cancelled with Halsey’s and decided to stay at Kissing Fish Bar which had started to fill up with many friendly folks, many of whom greeted each other like family. Dinner was supposed to be around 6, but it was actually served at 7:30 pm- however, worth the wait! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" /> Delicious!! Buffet style with salad, baked beans, and extra sauce for the ribs- all we could eat. We ate with two couples we’d met at the bar from CA- they were heading to Anguilla the next day to rent a house for a week with another friend. We said goodnight around 9 and headed for bed with full bellies and a bit of a buzz… (bed was very comfy!) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/snore.gif" alt="" />
Almost forgot- had arranged to meet Craig of Packlight in the lobby @ 5:30 pm- he was there right on time and dropped off 2 beach chairs and an umbrella he rented to us for the week. Also gave us free drink coupons for Peg Leg Pub, Le Bec Fin, Jimbo’s, La Gondola and 10% off Pineapple Pete’s, as well as a discount from Mirage Jewelers. He’ll pick them up at the end of the week at Divi.
