Hello Everyone,
We just got back last night from a wonderful land-based trip to VG. I will not bore you with little details, but I would like to list some of the wonderful highlights and a couple of little annoying issues, you all may need to watch out for.
First, I would like to thank Sandra from Mongoose Apartments in CGB. This was the original destination that we had booked back in April. However, due to unforeseen circumstances regarding our one year old, we had to cancel, as we did not think we were going to be able to fly at all this summer. Sandra was so wonderful about refunding our deposit, as the cancellation was due to a medical concern.
At the very last minute, our baby was deemed fit to fly and we decided to go to Leverick Bay, as we had already been there before, knew what to expect and they had affordable accomodation for our party which had grown to 5 adults, 2 children and 2 babies Sandra is a class act and we will look to stay with her on our next trip, probably in December.
Second, if you can fly Island Birds STT to VG-DO IT! What a great experience, the planes and pilots are wonderful. The views of all the islands from the plane was simply amazing. Special thanks to Captain Marshall for helping my elderly mom into and out of a very tiny plane! I can't say enough about the whole operation.
The evening before we were leaving a TTOL poster stated that the VG aiport would close the next morning
I phoned Captain Bob at home and he assured me that we were good to go.
Third, the two bedroom condo at Leverick (Ginger) was nice, but with a little TLC, it could have been a great place to stay. I was disappointed to discover that one had to climb 93 steps to get up to the condo. When I booked, Donna from the LB office told me that it was 30 steps-much mor doable after a couple of painkillers. I had a couple of conversations with her about this prior to arriving, so that was annoying. We ended up renting a car to drive my mom and the babies up and down the road (this turned out to be a very good thing, as we used it to get all around the island). However, again Donna quoted me a much cheaper price than Speedy's was willing to charge, so this created a bit of an issue.
The rest of the staff at LB was great. Monica in the office lent us some games from home that we played at night. Ali at the bar was terrific- don't miss the Tuesday all night Happy Hour and the Friday Night BBQ (great ribs).
Neil, the restaurant manager was fabulous and I highly recommend the restaurant at Leverick Bay. We ate there twice and both nights everything was delicious, well presented and the service was great. Try the lamb.
Fourth, Savannah Bay is probably one of the best beaches, I have ever been to. I have been to many islands, including Hawaii, but this was just awesome. Limed away there on two mornings with my husband and baby. If I ever hit lotto, my routine will be spending the entire morning snorkeling and swimming at Savannah and then lunch at Giorgio's. We loved the food so much that we had both lunch and dinner there on the last day. The lobster risotto, steaks and mushroom crepe were fabulous. Special thanks to Simon for taking good care of us.
Fifth, the Sandbox has the most delicious drink that you must try-Raspberry Poundcake. If anyone has a recipe out there, I would appreciate if you posted it.
The food was also very good for lunch (ribs and chicken sandwich) and my cousin and I were the only ones on the beach that day, so it was just magical. Lal is a great guy.
Sixth, the Baths and Devil's Bay were their usual fantastic selves. It is great to bring first timers there and see the wonder on their faces. The kids loved the experience and the food at Top of the Baths was delicious once again. The Sunday BBQ was very tasty and the beer was very cold.
Seventh, one of the highlights of the trip was the 1/2 day snorkeling trip with Corrine from Double D. She is a wonderful captain, great with our children and very knowledgable about the islands. Monkey Point was such a great snorkeling spot. We saw so many fish and a baby shark
If you can, go out with them-it was such a great experience.
All in all a great time was had by all. Of course, we ate and drank way too much-but that is what you are supposed to do on vacation, right? The BVI are a special place.
Again, the condo at LB has great potential, but needs serious updating. The fridge leaked and was moldy and we had a serious ant problem (granted with four kids around we had a lot of crumbs).
I probably would not stay there again, but it served it's purpose and the views and breezes were great! The covered patio was a terrific place to watch the sky and have a cocktail.
Please email any questions- I apologize for any spelling errors as I can't do spell check, because baby is crying.
We will be back in December.
THE WEATHER WAS GREAT!
