My trip pics can be found at:
Lance's Pictures This was our laid back Fall trip where I celebrated once again, both my birthday and the festival of Samhain (Celtic New Years). We spent the first week in Cane Garden Bay, both eating out ( ate everywhere and loved it.) and cooking in. (Very easy to do at the Mongoose Apartments)
Nights at Quito’s (caught all his solo performances and three nights of the band!); closing the bar at Myett’s (great camaraderie with Prince, the staff, and guests.); and late night swims. (I don’t need no bathing suit! )
The second week we rented a 4WD and toured the island and ate out most afternoons and evenings. (Jolly Roger “Fantastic!”, Coco Plums “as good as ever”, Palm Delight was closed “I missed it.”, Sebastian’s, The Islands Beach bar, Ms Naomi’s (wonderful woman), Tamarind Club, and De Loose Mongoose.
Our friends Vicky & Bobby, who we met at the Soggy Dollar last May, came into CGB for dinner with us one evening and took us out on Lone Star for a pleasant day sail to Jost the next day.
That’s it in a nut shell.
Commentary on the pictures…..
We fly thru St Thomas (Pic 2) (Usually cheaper for us.) and as luck would have it the ferry had to do a quick stop in Red Hook (Pic 3)….Lets go, I want to get in the water!
CGB at last (Pics 4-11) A cruise ship or two was in every couple of days and when the swells came in and the beach was torn up, it was fun watching the crowds make do with the minimal sand. In some places so much had washed out that there were nearly 3ft embankments. (Impressive.)
Eat your heart out on this one guys……During the second week, we had gotten back in the late afternoon from Beef Island and went down to the beach (southernmost portion past the graveyard) where I spied what appeared to be photo screens being used in front of Quito’s. After a quick dash up the beach I discovered a modeling web site was doing a bikini photo shoot ….(Murphy’s Law…the camera was back at the Mongoose.. I’VE LEARNED MY LESSON!) OK, It’s hot but I’m running. I got back in time to try my hand a bit….and the photo crew had no problem with my doing so. (I don’t think they knew I had a 400mm VR lens though!) I got 66 of 70 good shots that I added to an existing folder entitled “Eye Candy” of which (Pic 11) is just one sample.
I did a lot of hiking while in CGB ….walked to Carrot Bay for breakfast at the Garden Restaurant and took some shots from Windy Hill (Bananakeet) (Pics 12 & 13) Loved the surf at Josiah’s but there was only one successful surfer to see (Pic 15). Grabbed a lunch at Miss Naomi’s (Pics 16 – 18). She is such a sweet woman who makes one feel like family!
I did a walk up the north ridge of CGB to Soldiers Hill and out to Luck Hill the second week. What an interesting perspective on CGB (Pics 19 – 31) Went to Long Bay Beef Island to snorkel and Trellis Bay afterwards. Pics (32 – 40)
I never saw a red/pink sunset the whole time but did catch
An interesting strong yellow one (Pics 41 –45) My last set (Soper’s Hole) was taken from the ferry boat as we prepared to leave to go home. (Pics 46 – 53)
(Pics 54 – 63) were contributed by "periwinkle" and their captions and comments tell it all.
May you Enjoy!
Lance

I think I'll leave the big camera home and make do with a point & shoot. I've learned though; I'll always have it with me.
