Arived on a Tues in STT via American and took the 5pm ferry to VG ($35 pp one way) about 2 hours total travel time including customs stop at Roadtown.Picked up a car from L&S rentals(no problems with this rental company or the vehicle. We did have to ask to have the seat belts in the rear seats installed which they did. I also recommend your bring a "seat belt clip" if you want to use a child seat. As noted before, rental cars seem underpowered but are adequate for local driving.)There was no problem driving on the roads. Representatives of the villa rental company met us at the dock and took our bags to Mahoe. I recommend you call the rep before your trip if a first timer she (Jackie) can give you a lot of helpful info.Stayed at Beachcomber villa. It is very nice. Pictures on web sites are accurate. Beds were firm. Kitchen well supplied. Gas and charcoal grills.Service alwaYS prompt if there was a problem (like running out of water). Construction was going on, but was not really too noisy or bothersome. Except for being asked to move my car. No matter where I parked it some construction person wanted it moved (they were always very nice about it).Had Occassions BVI do our shopping in advance and have a premade dinner ready for our first night. Had Erica cook at our villa 3 times (she did a wonderful job). Went to the Bath's and Devils bay and Spring beach. All were nice. Bath's much more crowded than my last visit 3 yrs ago.The beach at Mahoe actually has some of the best snorkeling overall. Better than the Bath's or the Dog Islands or Leverick (IMHO).Lighthouse at Leverick Bay had good food. We did a resort course dive and snorkeling with Dive BVI at Leverick and recommend them. We ate at Saba Rock. The staff was very, very nice and the location is interesting. The food was average on the night we were there. Buck's market seemed to have the best variety of food products.Tourist type Shopping is limited. THe island still has an overall unspoiled character.AS far as crime, no problems. We were informed both verbally and in writing about property crime which was described as"not dangerous". There was a safe in every bedroom. We took Air sunshine back to STT and then home on AA which took 12 hours when it should have taken 6. Not once did anyone from AA apologize or explain why there was a delay or a gate change or a departure time change. THe plane was roomy in coach but the service was poor as noted above.

Edited by Administrator on 8/8/01 02:50 PM.
