July 3rd there were more than one chalets entered in the middle of the night and electronics taken. The screen doors were the only things between the perps and the victims. On another web sight it was reported that 7 were entered. I talked to a person that was a victim and I thought he said 4. The perps actually went in while the people were sleeping inside. No one was harmed. This actually happened again on the 10 of July also.

On another web sight it was reported that 7 were entered. While I do find the title confusing or misleading, I think the OP was trying to clarify what was posted elsewhere. Not sure what that has to do with TTOL as it was not posted here in the same fashion it was elsewhere.

I almost always use the preview feature here, but I use Firefox a good part of the time now, and it underlines misspelled words, like Word does, so that is helpful also. Hard to understand what the OP meant.
Regardless of the garbled title, that is pretty disturbing news. Club O has always felt really secure.

Until something goes wrong, that is. We always feel very safe at the Towers and yet, I know there have been thefts there but to date, nothing inside the building that I'm aware of. It's always hard to accept these things happening on our beloved island, but sadly they do and on both sides of the island, too.

Actually, NO, that is still a breaking in. And I am one of the serious ones too. I do not find this funny at all.

It is a serious matter and would be even more serious if it involved you. I don't care if it is 7 thefts, 4 thefts or 1 theft, it is a crime and should not be taken lightly. I find it very distasteful when people choose to joke about crime, a murder, etc. and it happens way too often. I recently noticed elsewhere a couple of people joking on a post about the girl that was killed while jogging. Very distasteful!
This is also what happens when people read multiple boards, believe everything they read on the internet and and then try to consolidate it elsewhere. I prefer to deal in facts and just because it is posted on the internet does not make it fact.

NO, if the screen was closed, it was a break in. I don't care what insurance companies do. Regardless, it is a crime and a serious matter.

MORWAVES said: Technically It is not a break in. But I understand what you all are saying. Some insurance companies will try to deny claims if there is no sign of forced entry.Just saying. A legal definition: breaking and entering
n. 1) the criminal act of entering a residence or other enclosed property through the slightest amount of force (even pushing open a door), without authorization. If there is intent to commit a crime, this is burglary. If there is no such intent, the breaking and entering alone is probably at least illegal trespass, which is a misdemeanor crime. 2) the criminal charge for the above.

I have not seen mention of it in the Daily Herald, although the DH often does not cover French side stories very thoroughly. I generally do not read the French side newspapers, as I do not read French and google translate is often quite garbled.
I agree it is a good idea to let people know here that this happened. As to whether Club O would inform their clients or not, I wouldn't know.

Not directing this to the specifics of the situation at Club O but more or less as a generality, I don't think any of the beachfront locations, be they resorts, guest houses or private residences, are particularly secure at night. And even the presence of nighttime security staff is not much of a guarantee, unless of course, there are several armed guards in place, and I don't think we want that. At least I know I don't.

Hello, Walt,
I was thinking of you and your experience and yet your continued confidence in the Club O environment as I read the earliest posts in this thread.
Like you, we always lock up securely wherever we are, even here in our 'safe' little corner of CT and in our quiet little corner of SXM.
I hope you are well and finding it easier to put the bad island experience behind you but I'm sure none of these incidents help.
Respectfully,
pat

I too was wondering how you are doing, Walt. I hope that you are physically recovered, at least.

Thanks, Walt, for your update, and here's hoping for a complete recovery. We, too, have always felt safe at Club Orient. There is a temptation to enjoy the night by leaving the slider open, but it doesn't trump the need for security. There is a bright light shining on the beach at the Perch Bar, and security does make frequent rounds during the night, usually by golf cart, with the headlight turned off. I'm glad that Club O reported this to police, and hopefully the perpetrators are caught.
I'm going where the weather suits my clothes.
