Hi All -
Well, we are finally back last night, having flown from San Juan to Hartford and then the long drive home. The only thing in common between where we live now in New York (near New Paltz) and Anegada, is that both have no snow!

The 12 days on Anegada went quickly again --- too quickly. Just start to settle in and it's time to be thinking about closing up and packing. The Anegada news doesn't seem too voluminous this trip. But here are a few things:

Road Construction: The road project, bringing the road to the government dock just past the Anegada Reef Hotel is almost finished. Maybe one more mile to go. Some slow work being done on it. Makes a big difference to have the paved road. But I wonder if when people get too driving too fast they will install speed bumps to make them go slower??? We already had speed bumps which they paved over!

The weather: For the first week or so it was quite windy, especially out on the North shore. The temps were about 80-82 during the days and a little cooler at night. But the strong wind sometimes made it quite cool. The beach could be a little bit sandy (sand blowing) at time. Friends who came with us from New York loved the weather, though, and swam every day, especially early in the morning. Found it very refreshing. Then by last Saturday the wind slowed down, the seas got calmer, and all was back to glorious on Anegada. Except for Sunday, when it rained all day. We measured 1 1/2 inches in our little weather station. Rain is always needed on a desert island, so it was great. By evening it stopped, in time for our little Superbowl Party with some folks we met who were staying at Mac's Campground. Monday and Tuesday were PERFECT weather days.

Ultralite: There is a guy named Neil who comes over from Virgin Gorda (I think) one day a week and takes people on airplane rides over Anegada. Seems to be the latest "activity". Nice way to see the Island and we don't hear his plane very much at all. People who have done it say it's great fun.

Births: We saw one very new baby while we were there. Tika (Wendell and Belle's daughter out at Cow Wreck) had a beautiful girl who is now about 3 months old. Her husband, Alex, says he stopped working as a policeman and is pursuing his commercial pilot's licence. And the day or two before we left, NanshaLee from Big Bamboo also had a baby girl. Mom and baby doing well. Also, Aaron and Becka Soares had another child (their 2nd), this one a boy, Ryan. A big guy at about 5 months.

Big birthday party: Celon from Big Bamboo had his 19th birthday while we were there and Diana made a big party for him at Cardie's. The whole village came out to celebrate, have some goat soup, curried goat, barbeque, and drinks, and to listen to some real loud music into the night.

Boat counts: At various times at Anegada Reef Hotel we counted generally about 2 dozen boats anchored or moored (but this was when the weather cleared). Much quieter earlier in the week when the seas were rough.

Building projects: Neptune's Treasure is adding a few rooms on the 2nd floor of the building that Randall had put up last year. Things look really nice down there under the palms. The cottages that Kenneth Norman is putting up on Loblolly near to Flash of Beauty are about done. He's still waiting for electricity to be hooked up, but word is that it's going to happen fairly soon. Others are talking about a few more cottages here or there, but no one is building anything more as of yet.

A few more bars: We went to Potters by the Sea for a quick drink the other night. Seems to be a fairly young crowd. Cap from Flash of Beauty and his son, Damon, are building a bar right by the bridge. It will have great sunsets (and they better call some drink or other by that name --- something like an "Anegada Sunset.") Don't know what they are going to call the bar, but if it's as romantic as "Flash of Beauty" they will do well. And word has it that another bar is being built on the other side of the Anegada Reef Hotel.

Nurse: There is a new nurse on the island, a woman from Canada (Winnipeg, I think she said). Her husband is teaching at the school. Everyone's health seems to be in good hands.

There is of course lots more stuff about various people, but that's the gist from us out at Lavenda Breeze. If anyone has particular questions, please feel free to ask.

George and Reggie
