If byou have an unlocked phone you can get a local, Digicel, sim for 15-20Ec with 10-15 Ec credit on it. Both countries have an international calling plan that gives you 2 hours of calls to the US, Canada or the UK for 20 EC. The plan is only good for 2 weeks and only in the country the sim was purchased in.

I used Digicel last month in St. Lucia, they have different data plans from 1 day to a month. It's pretty reasonable I think I paid 25 EC for 500 MB good for 2 weeks. You can roam with the data, but since I was only on St. Liucia I'm not sure what the roaming rates are. I remember seeing a promotion in the Digicel shop that was "no roaming charges in the Caribbean" but that I'm not sure if that included data and you had to opt in on it. There is free wifi at the Rodney Bay Marina at Café Ole', Boardwalk Bar, Bread Basket to name a few places, so if you're heading straight to the Grenadines you could get a SVG sim to avoid roaming charges. There is a digicel store right near the marina, just north on the main road, could check into it there to see about roaming.

I'm in Grenada now, Carriacou actually, I got a local sim with 10EC credit, the international calling plan 120 minutes to the US, Canada & UK and a 1 week data plan 600MB for 56EC/ $21 US total, the data plan can be re-upped for 17EC/ $6+ US. How does that compare with using the international plans from the US servers? If it works out cheaper I might try it myself next time.

I use Digicel, didn't have any problem with coverage on St. Lucia or Grenada, but I was land based. Speeds are pretty good, except for extremely large zip files.
