Went to Marigot Market this morning. Eric dropped me off and parked in the NON blue zone parking, since we don't have the disc. Success! Found my garnet pendant, which I'm wearing now! Also found some lovely tiles! The pictures really don't do the pendant or the tiles justice, but you get the drift. Today apparently is 'music day' or something to that effect in France. Apparently music all over today, including some children singing at the market, which was nice. Most of the songs were in French, but one particularly lovely song was the Whitney Houston song, which I can't remember the name of now, but goes "....I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone's shadow.. I found the greatest love of all, inside of me." Great to meet also with JimCandD, who happened to be there. Back "home" here now and the water is just stunningly beautiful today! Life is good!

Pat--just posted the pictures, just now. Enjoy!
We had a MAJOR disaster just now, Eric broke the corkscrew!!!! That delayed uploading some of the pictures.. Thank god, he found the maid with a replacement, so we're back in business!!

Mort--For the first time in a LONG time, we're planning on going downtown tomorrow, so will get something better to hang it on, as I don't like that ring.. They gave me the ring for free.

You do understand that everything is relative. It could have been going shopping and looking!! And not buying!!! She had no money or CC - this is a good thing!! So if I did not find her and the person did not hold back the item!!!! Ok, just saying -- jewelry and tile???? Come on man!!! Maybe when parking it takes me a looooooooooong time to find her??? Will that work???? Just asking!

Nice pendant! Do you guys have favorite local artist? We've been looking for some local art for years now. I know art is such a subjective thing, but any recommendations might get us started.

Oh Carol! What a beautiful view! I am rather partial to the first tile as it seems it might be reminiscent of Club O and their yellow umbrellas!

You got to get Eric out of those crew socks and into no show or ankle socks.

Yes, it is. Most of her tiles are supposed to be SXM scenes. The one is Mullet and another one view of Saba.

email address for the tile lady is mickaindi@yahoo.com. I don't think she has a website at present. The website for the garnet people is www.thegarnet.comAs far as other SXM artists, I love Roland Richardson. There is apparently a lady that does 'sand art' downtown Pburg, that we intend to check out tomorrow.

Great pictures! We missed the market last time we were down. I put it on my list of activities for when we are there next. Every Wednesday?

Yes, they are definitely there every Wednesday. I don't know if all of the vendors are there otherwise, but the tile lady said that she was there this week the days there were cruise ships in.

Nice! We have a number of Micka's tiles and a couple magnets. In February there was also a sand art lady in Grand Case, we purchased a couple of her pieces. She writes on the bottom where the sand was collected from.

We have the exact same tiles as you pictured as well as a few others. We bought one this year that shows the path from the Club O parking lot to the beach. My wife, Carol, also has a garnet which looks similar to the one you purchased. She too loves it. The "Tile Lady" is so nice. Every year we take photos on our phone of the tiles we have and she helps us select one or two new ones. Did you stop at the Secret Spot t-shirt place? Great shirts of which I have half a dozen. They wear and wear forever. Long sleeve as well as short sleeve. And, they are designed and made on the island by using a four station silk-screen press. Also enjoyed the stand where they make ice cream and sorbet by hand-turning it as you watch. Always something new to look at each year. Just love the place.

Sounds like we have similar tastes! Yes, I went by the Secret Spot, but didn't really see anything I wanted. I rarely wear t-shirts, although they did have some nice looking ones.

Not sure if it's the same one or not, but there is supposedly a sand art lady in Old Street in Phillipsburg--which I read about on biglar's blog! We intend to check it out tomorrow.

I love the tiles --- what do you both do with them?
The market looks so nice in the pictures.

Not sure what kind of art you are looking for, but I am partial to, in no particular order: - Ruby Bute
- Jean-Pierre Straub
- Marie Moine
I have several pieces by all of them, and they all have studios. If you want more info and can't find out more by googling, let me know. This site can get you started. SXM Artists

I place a hanger on the back using silicone from a tube and then hang them next to my wife's sink in our bathroom. She has 8 of them now. Has been buying one or two each year. She starts her day by visiting some of our favorite places in SXM each morning. We have them in blue, white and black.

For me, I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do with them. The small ones are meant to be coasters, but not sure that's what I will use them for. The larger ones, the lady said that Michael's sells square frames that they fit in perfectly. Those I will definitely hang somehow.

Is the "Secret Spot" the name of the t-shirt place or is it in a special location?

I have 2 hanging on the wall as you walk into my kitchen. They look great, and sure help when the weather gets snowy!

We have three different Club O tiles, I don't know if Micka has more than that or not. Most of them come in light blue and dark blue.

Apparently all the designs can come on any color tile. She was actually willing to make one for us if we came back the next day, on a different background, but we just chose from what she had. I don't know for sure, but I guess she is there when there are ships in? Not sure..
