9/2/11 Wednesday
We had breakfast at the hotel again. I had an omelet with a side of pancakes and Kim had eggs and bacon, with coffee, tea and juice it was about $60 EC. We decided to try a different beach today; I had read that Morne Rouge Beach was nice so that was our choice. We walked down the beach to Garfields and then got a cab at the main road; the fare was $25 EC for the short ride over the hill, well worth it in this heat. The beach was in a small bay, and the water almost looked teal as we walked up. There were a few people from the two cruise ships that were in town, but it wasn’t crowded at all so we found a nice spot near some almond trees where I could lay if I wanted shade later.

Kim on Morne Rouge Beach
The sea was nearly flat calm and I probably spent more time swimming today than I have any other day yet this trip. Some people who must have chartered a mega-yacht set up camp near us, they had three crew members who were moving their chairs and pouring their drinks. Interesting to see how the other half lives. I spoke with some folks from Toronto who are on a ten day cruise. We talked local (Buffalo/TO) sports and about the island. The food at the bar, Sur La Mer, looked pretty good and the prices were reasonable so I went back to where Kim was sitting and we had some lunch. Well actually I had some lunch, a chicken roti, lime daiquiri and a Carib. Kim had a Piton and some of my roti. The roti was flaky just like yesterday and the woman told me they put some spice in the dough; it came with a small salad and all together the bill was $49 EC.

Kim at the bar
Kim went back to lie in the sun, I don’t know how she does it and I snorkeled a bit over some sea grass. I saw a spotted yellow eel and a small sea snake, then that was enough for me and I swam back to the sandy part of the water. We hung around for an hour and a half after the cruise ship people left and called our taxi for a ride back to the hotel, $30 EC.

A fishermans house on the bay at Morne Rouge, with traps on the wall and a homemade boat lying beside it. Just more of the charm of beautiful Grenada.
After a shower and some lounging around on the balcony we grabbed a bus for De Big Fish restaurant to meet David and Michele form Great Escape for dinner. The restaurant is open air and the mossies were attacking in force until we put on some repellant. We had a couple drinks before ordering our meals and talked about boats and some of the sights we should see when we are in England next September. David said he will take me to his favorite pub for some bitters brewed on site. For dinner Kim and I opted for the pork tenderloin, it was served with brown gravy, and accompanied by the salad bar, some rice or potato would have been nice. David and Michele had cheeseburgers with a side of fries and also a side of the salad bar. The food was good and no one had any complaints. The bill for everything including 10% service charge and tip was $310 EC. They walked back to True Blue, where they had left the dingy, Kim and I had the bar call a cab which took us home for $30 EC.
