Daily Herald linkThis story talks about the local channel coming back online, but I wasn't aware that the SXM cable TV was even operating, but maybe it is?

I have not had cable since I arrived at the end of Nov, and haven't even been able to talk to anyone who can tell me what's going on, after 3 visits to TelEm. From the article you posted, it appears some people must have it.

It doesn't make sense, since supposedly there has been no cable of late.

There is no cable Wendy. Last I heard, St. Maarten cable tv shut down. If it wasn’t for my Roku, I wouldn’t see anything.

Correct. Cable has not been available. I just wonder if they really mean Broadband instead.

When I contacted the Atrium a few weeks ago they told they had both WiFi and cable TV. I'm not sure they understood what I was asking since I heard there was no cable on the island. We arrive tomorrow and I will post regarding both WiFi and cable TV. Hoping fore the best.

I know. No sense at all. I've always had Dish at the Flamingo and never knew of cable available on island.

Cable has definitely been avaiable on the island. I've had it for years. I believe most of the big resorts used satellite though.

Don't know about the big resorts, as I don't remember, but Beachside used cable.

Well, yeah, that is about SXM Cable, which is the former Cable TV provider. I still can't figure out how this local channel that they are talking about in the original story is being broadcast. Maybe available only on an antenna?

When you say cable, are you getting more than just the channel 15 the news story talks about? We are not getting anything, including that channel, in Cupecoy.

I was wondering the same this morning as far as cable TV vs. regular TV. Two things happen when running thru all the stations on the remote.
1) When moving thru the channel options with the remote, it will state "cable tv" and the channel number and we receive channels 2 thru 21.
2) When repeating going thru the stations again it will show "tv" and channel 2 thru 13 only.
This procedure alternates each time you go thru all the stations. However, neither option gives us channel 15.
I don't remember how many stations we received last year but 21 channels is plenty for us. I hope this answers your question and makes sense for everyone.

I feel very badly for the people who's jobs are no longer there. It does indeed seems as something "fishy" is going on. One thing not mentioned at all is that they have clients who pay a year in advance for their service. This now defunct company has their money, gives no service and nobody seems to be asking questions or addressing that issue.

We arrived Saturday. Still no cable on Simpson Beach, if you are connected to satellite you are able to get tv and internet. The internet is very unreliable, it was in and out on the entire island yesterday. If you are planning a visit I highly recommend to have your phone hot spot ready to go, espcially if you want/need to stay connected.

It was only Telem that was out and problematic. All other carriers were fine.

I am at LaVista Beach now. Andrea says Telem is playing some kind of game. She is going to install Dish satellite system. It is on the island. Waiting for concrete room to be finished to hold all electronics. Article in todays Herald re: government and Telem. Confusing.

OK, thanks for the update regarding what LaVista is going to do. I suspect maybe a lot of other places will follow suit. Agreed, Telem is playing some kind of game, possibly to get rid of all the employees of the previous cable company.

We were just at Mary's Boon last month and they were busy installing there own Satellite TV system using both Dish Network and Direct TV signals with all the USA networks and movies, sports, etc. They did already have it in the bar area and will have it in all the guests rooms within the next week. All new HD cables etc so I'm looking forward our next visit in April , not that I really watch that much TV on a beach vacation! I know its very expensive to install all but the less dependent you can become from any of the island utilities you can become the better I'd say.
